Referring to the point that the world must be cleansed of violence, in the meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Greece and the Iranian cultural attaché, Ieronymos II emphasized on continuing interfaith dialogue with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the Public Relations of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Majid Motallebi Shabestari, the Iranian ambassador to Greece, and Ali Mohammad Helmi, the Iranian cultural attaché in Greece met with Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece and the primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece on Monday, April 10.
In this meeting which was held in the Central Church in Athens, referring to growing relations between Iran and Greece in political, economic and cultural aspects in recent years, the Iranian ambassador called for strengthening relations between divine religions based on common teachings enshrined in the scriptures.
Stating that the two elements of culture and religion are determinant in the growth and excellence of nations, as well as bringing them together, Motallebi Shabestari added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always called for peace and calm in all regions and the rejection of violence and extremism and dealing with terrorism in different parts of the world".
In this meeting, Ali Mohammad Helmi, the Iranian cultural attaché, also stated: "The successful interfaith dialogue between Greek Christian scholars and Iranian Muslim scholars which was held in Tehran after several years of interruption indicates the determination of religious leaders and religious scholars of both countries to maintain friendly relations and sincere cooperation to counter extremism and emphasize on human and divine values".
Referring to more than 25 years of successful experience in interfaith dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and different countries and religions, he added: "The interfaith dialogues are at high level and are held in friendly environments for empathy and cooperation to promote moral values and prevent misunderstandings and integrate between religions for creating peace in the world".
Following his speech, conveying the greetings of Dr. Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman, the head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization to the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ali Mohammad Helmi appreciated the cooperation and support of the primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece for sending his representatives to Tehran for participating in the successful interfaith dialogue which was held on last March.
At the end of his speech, Ali Mohammad Helmi invited Ieronymos II to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran and meet with Muslim and Christian leaders and visit the pleasant and unique atmosphere of the peaceful coexistence among the followers of religions in Iran.
Following the meeting, expressing satisfaction from interfaith dialogue which was held on last month in Tehran, Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece and the primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece stated: "One of the most important and essential issues are to maintain friendly relations and prevent the misuse of religions and religious values".
Referring to the need to promote interfaith dialogue, Ieronymos II emphasized on the point that the Orthodox Church of Greece is ready to continue interfaith dialogue with Iran and added: "The world must be cleansed of violence".
At the end of the meeting, a book entitled "Iran, the Cradle of Peaceful Coexistence", which was published in English by the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, was donated to the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece.
