The second international conference on "Religious and Cultural Variation and Peaceful Coexistence in the Middle East", which was organized by the Greek Foreign Ministry in Athens, ended by publishing statement.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), in some of the chapters of the statement states:

-Participants at the international conference emphasized that this conference could be the starting point for freedom of religion, tolerance and variation, codifying the various problems and elaborating viable solutions.

- The issue of extremism and religious sectarianism is one of the Middle Easts troubles and disasters that has caused many problems for many societies and countries of the Middle East; therefore, it must be tackled with this horrendous phenomenon.

-Participants at the conference emphasized the crucial role of communities and religious leaders in helping migrants and refugees who are victims of religious extremism. In addition, it was emphasized that institutions and religious communities should do their utmost to integrate and provide the necessary assistance to the victims, refugees and migrants from these extremists. Participants believe, those moderate religious communities and powerful countries can play an important role in undermining harsh and radical behaviours in Middle Eastern countries and communities.

- Participants at the conference emphasized the role and importance of media and education in preventing contradictions and religious differences as well as the contribution of the media in raising and enhancing their religious literacy and awareness in order to be able to counteract hate speech, discrimination and intolerance through continuous dialogue and shared understandings with moderate religious leaders. They also mentioned the role and the effect of religious extremist education on creating religious hatred in educational systems in some Middle Eastern countries, and these types of training should be stopped.

Participants in the conference agree that the small religious communities at risk of religious extremism should be supported and protected.

- Participants thanked to the efforts of the "Center for Cultural and Religious Variation in the Middle East " affiliated with the Greek Foreign Ministry and emphasized the need for cooperation in an active network that will continue to be in contact with religious leaders, religious institutions and societies.

The conference organizers will announce the results of the conference and the statement to the UN Human Rights Council. The statement will be in connection with religious and cultural variation in the Middle East and will seek to be registered as a United Nations document.

According to the news, two proposals about avoiding the extremist education system, as well as the need for specialized committees and an active network for communication between leaders, institutions and religious communities in the Middle East, were the suggestions of the Iranian delegation participating in the conference which were well reflected in the final statement in the form of paragraphs 4 and 6.

The members of the delegation representing Iran at the conference were: Hujjat al-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Taskhiri, Head of the Center for Dialogue of Religions of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Shahriar Shojapour, International advisor of Islamic Research Institute for Culture and Thought and Hujjat al-Islam Taher Aminigolestani, head of the International Institute of Peace and Religion.
