11th Round of Islam-Orthodox Dialogue (4)

11th Conference on Dialogue between Islam, Orthodox Church Ends

The 11th Conference on Dialogue between Islam and Russian Christian Orthodox Church ended its three-day activities on Monday, May 7 in Islamic Culture and Communications Conferences Hall in Tehran.

The last day activities of the two sides included wrapping up the viewpoints presented by the distinguished thinker participants of both sides, the Islamic Communications and Relations Organization (ICRO) Public Relations reported.

ICRO Chief: Destroying Nature Equals Abolishing Path Towards Monotheism

One of the ways for acquiring insight about God is concentrating on natural environment and God’s creatures and therefore destroying them equals destroying the path towards monotheism, said Islamic Communications and Relations Organization chief.

“An Iranian poet has composed a verse that reads if two people will sit on land to focus on gaining insight about God the skies will envy them, and dialogues on monotheism are one of the phenomena that the angles in the sky envy the people on earth for them,” said Abuzar Ebrahimi-Torkman in his address at the closing ceremony of The 11th Conference on Dialogue between Islam and Russian Christian Orthodox Church.

He said that Iran and Russia had no interactions with each other for years. “We were two detached nations for 70 years, during which the Christian churches were oppressed in the former Soviet Union and Islam, too, was oppressed during the former regime of Iran, the Islamic Communications and Relations Organization (ICRO) Public Relations reported.

Torkman also said that there was no chance for holding dialogues between our two nations or religions, but during the course of the past decades we have had this chance through which we have gained greater insight about each other.

Ebrahimi-Torkman who is meanwhile a member of the Supreme Council for Cultural Revolution further focusing on environment protection from Islam’s point of the view said, “I emphasize that the deterioration of the natural environment is not only imposing the future generation to more wars and destruction, but also blocking the path for gaining insight about monotheism.

The ICRO chief ended his address promising the Iranian and Russian Participants that the results of the conference will be delivered to the Iranian Department of Environment and encouraging the Russian participants, too, to do the same in their own country.

H.E. Fewfan: It Is Our Right to Preserve God-Given Blessings

His Eminence Fewfan, the Metropole of Kazan and Tataristan and the representative of Patriarch Crile, the Patriarch of Moscow and the Russian Federation said that preserving the natural environment, which is a God-given blessing is a right for the entire mankind.

The high ranking Russian Orthodox Church official made the remark in his address at the closing ceremony of The 11th Conference on Dialogue between Islam and Russian Christian Orthodox Church, the Islamic Communications and Relations Organization (ICRO) Public Relations reported.

Expressing satisfaction over the high level talks, the top priest said that besides the valuable outcomes of the conference on preservation of the natural environment, one of the most precious achievements of it is gaining deeper insight of each side about the other side.

“The West adopts very unjust stands about Iran, including blocking the path for expansion of Iran’s relations with the other countries. During my three-day visit of Iran, I have thought a lot and come up with the conclusion that the realities in Iran differ very greatly with the western propagation. Iran is an advanced country with a kind, respectable and very prestigious nation,” he said.

The Metropole of Kazan and Tataristan meanwhile denounced the western propagations about the oppressed status of women in Iran, arguing that the Iranian women had a very thoughtful and prestigious presence in this conference.

Declaration of Islam, Russian Christian Orthodox Church Conference

Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Mahdi Taskiri, the head of the Islamic Communications and Relations Organization (ICRO) Center for Dialogues among Religions and Civilizations, read for the conference audience the final declaration of the conference on its closing ceremony day.

The declaration partly reads:

Twenty-one of the participants in The 11th Conference on Dialogue between Islam and Russian Christian Orthodox Church offered lectures on the subtitles of the conference, while all the participants actively took part in the panel discussions of the event on religions and the natural environment.

The topics of such discussions included:

1.     Natural environment and shared ethical beliefs of Divine faiths

2.     Interactions among religious leaders on environment preservation topic

3.     Effect of healthy environment on individual and social lives from Islam and Christian points of the view

4.     Interactions between human beings and the nature in Islamic and Christian faiths

The participants at the end of the conference were agreed on the following points:

·        The entire human beings from various nations and belonging to different faiths should enjoy equal rights in using the natural resources, but everyone should refrain from abusing the nature, which is against the teachings in both Islam and Christianity.

·        The thinkers in this conference consider the natural environment the cradle for prestigious continuation of the mankind’s life on earth; they also believe that preserving the natural environment’s health is not only serving the mankind for better nurturing of future generations, but also praising God for this great blessing, while destroying nature and deteriorating it is an unethical and wretched act.

The 12th Conference on Dialogue between Islam and Russian Christian Orthodox Church is scheduled to be held in Russia in the year 2020.
