Iranology Room to be established at Erzurum Technical University, Turkey

According to the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), Iran"s Cultural Attaché in Erzurum,  met with the head of the Erzurum Technical University, Muammer Yaylah, aiming to develop academic and scientific cooperation and exchanges with the Erzurum Technical University.


At the beginning of the meeting, Muammer Yaylah described the Erzurum Technical University and its scientific activities. “Erzurum Technical University has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the [Iranian] universities of Tabriz and Urmia” he noted, emphasizing on Iran being one of Turkey’s the most important neighbors.


“I have traveled to Iran 6 times as the Head of Erzurum Technical University in various delegations. Whenever the previous signed agreements are executed, the scientific cooperation and exchanges between the universities and academics of the two countries will be reinforced more than ever” he said.


During this meeting, the Iranian Cultural Attaché also announced the readiness of Iran’s Cultural Attaché Office to support scientific and cultural exchanges between Iranian and Turkish universities, pointing out the historical and cultural commonalities of Iran and Turkey – especially in the eastern Turkey – as well as the high scientific capacity of the universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.


“Given the existence of a Literature Faculty in Erzurum Technical University and an optional Persian language course in Philosophy and History majors, Iran’s Cultural Attaché Office is ready to support the Persian language and literature learning programs in this university” he further added.


The proposition on establishing an Iranology room and a Center for Iranian Studies at the Literature Faculty of Erzurum Technical University from the Iranian Cultural Attaché was welcomed by the Turkish side.


Among other matters discussed in the meeting were holding scientific conferences and meetings as well as granting study opportunities to Erzurum University academics and students   to boost their participation in Iranology and Persian language knowledge acquisition courses.


It is noteworthy that the Erzurum Technical University was founded in 2010 as the second state university in Erzurum, consisted of six colleges, three institutes and a postgraduate school; started admitting students officially in 2013. The university includes the Faculty of Literature, the Faculty of Economics and Administration, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, and the Faculty of Physical Education; it is currently one of the eight top industrial universities in Turkey and has 4,000 students. /
