What linked Iran and South Africa was the common objective of the revolution for freedom

Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hasan Khomeini, speaking during a webinar on the "Role and Impact of Imam Khomeini (RA) and Nelson Mandela" arranged  by joint efforts of Iranian Embassy and Cultural House in South Africa said what linked Iran and South Africa was the common objective of the revolution for freedom.

According to Public Relations Department of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) on the occasion of the 31st passing away anniversary of founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (RA), the cyberspace seminar took place on June 4 on the "Role and Impact of Imam Khomeini (RA) and Nelson Mandela on Determining the Future Direction of the World as two Great Leaders of all Ages.


Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hasan Khomeini, the grandson of the late Imam Khomeini (AR), in his opening remarks of the webinar said we Iranians know South Africa through the name of Nelson Mandela, the world famous great leader and it would not be exaggeration if we say that South Africa is known in the world with name of Mandela adding that it was a great honor for me to meet this great leader when I visited South Africa in 1999.

He said what links the commemoration of demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini with South Africa, is the shared objectives of two revolutions of Iranian and South African nations to gain freedom from the hands of the oppressive monarchy in Iran and Apartheid in South Africa, the two regimes that despite the sanctions imposed by the UN against the Apartheid Regime of Pretoria, they had extensive political, economic and military ties.

Hojatoleslam Seyyed Hasan Khomeini said we pay tribute to all martyrs of the cause of freedom and added that Mandela despite the pressure by the major governments always extended his support for the Islamic Revolution. He also thanked Iranian Embassy official and Cultural Attaché to Pretoria for organizing this event in commemoration of the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini.

The south African Foreign Minister Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor in his remarks said it is an honor that on the occasion of passing away anniversary of the founder of the Islamic Revolution to express my personal views and on behalf of the south African people to speech in this occasion.

The South African top diplomat said Imam Khomeini was a leader beyond the boundaries of his own country and was a statesman who founded the diplomatic relations of his country on the basis of independence and an identity which inspired many developing nations adding that the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran since its establishment in 1979, has been reflection of national identity.

The sought Africa foreign Minister went on saying that Tehran and Pretoria have many things in common in their recent history and both nations have been subject to oppressive governments that did not respect the right of their own people and therefore toppling them by act of revolution, was inevitable and justified.

 She said the history of Iran is so fascinating that one should feel proud of that  because Iran is one of the most ancient civilizations and has made considerable contribution to the human community in areas such as literature, medicine , engineering, science and technology and is and admirable country.

She said Iran during the past 26 years has been an important friend for Sought Africa adding that responsibility and independence reminds me of one of the teachings of Imam Khomeini, especially when he says that every one of us, men or woman, are responsible for of our future,  the same as we repeat in our daily prayer.

Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance speaking at the webinar said I would like to talk briefly about some political and social outlooks of the late Imam Khomeini (RA) on his 31st passing away anniversary which left great impacts on Iranian nations and beyound.

Yessed Abbas Salehi said Imam Khomeini was very punctual and well organized in his personal and social interactions and was very serious about law abiding matters in every areas.

He said Imam Khomeini during the first year of the Revolution established the country"s political system and at the same year held 5 elections and referendum.

Mr. Salehi said another important characteristic of Imam Khomeini was his firm personality and several time I heard him repeating that I fear no one and said that when the agents of the former regime were taking me to prison, they were fearful but I didn"t feel any fear.

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance said Imam Khomeini (AR) with such a personality was thinking to establish a stable and independent society and state adding that based on such vision, he founded a government that during the time of Cold War and post-Cold War era, without joining either of the East and West block, had not feared nay world powers.

 He added that I see the same personality in Mr. Mandela a man that spent 67 years of his life fighting racial discrimination and Apartheid and spent 27 years in Prison.

Iranian Cultural Attaché to South Africa taking part in this webinar said when we talk of Imam Khomeini in fact we are talking about a vision an world view that knows no geographical, language, race and color boundaries, a pure and brilliant vision and outlook originating from monolithic belief adding that his words are words of all religions.

He said Imam Khomeini urged all people of the world to safeguard their freedom and bow down to no one and this same message was taken up by the oppressed people.

Mohsen Zadeh, said one of the free man and champion of freedom not only in South Africa but the African Continent and even the world, was Nelson Mandela adding that Imam Khomeini and Mandela were champions of fight against oppression, discrimination and racism and both supported the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people.

He said commemoration of Imam Khomeini and Mandela is in fact paying tribute to freedom and liberty in the world and all those who have struggled against tyranny and suppression.

The Secretary General of the World Forum of Proximity of Islamic School of Thoughts, Hojatoleslam Shahriari, the Editor in Chief of Muslim News Daily, Farid Seyyed, the Head of Ahlul Bayt Center of the South Africa, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Aftab Heydar, a high ranking South Africaد Judge Seraj Desai a prominent anti-Apartheid Christian campaigner Sias  and political activist from Durban, Azad Seida also took part in the webinar and contributed to discussions about personalities of Imam Khomeini and The sought African Former President Nelson Mandela.
