The President of the Writers" Union of Armenia, Eduard Militonian, in his meeting with Cultural Attaché of Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia, Seyed Hossein Tabatabaei, called for continuation of bilateral cooperation in on Iranian and Armenian literature.

According to the Public Relations Department of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) The Iranian Cultural Attaché emphasized the need for expanding two nations" knowledge and understanding of each other"s literature.

The meeting, which took place at the Iranian Cultural Mission in Yerevan, Tabatabaei in his opening remarks talked about the brilliant and fruitful cooperation between Iranian Cultural Mission and the Armenian Writers" Union and underlined the important role played by the former president of the said union and paid tribute to him.

Iran"s cultural Attaché referred to literature as one of the most important spiritual assets of the two nations and talking about the high position of classical Persian literature among different segments of the Armenian people, called for paying more attention to introducing contemporary literature of the two countries.

 Edward Militonian, for his part, talked about some programs implemented by the Writers" Union of Armenia in recent years to introduce the contemporary literature of the two countries and considered paying attention to this important issue as one of the important priorities of the institution under his management.

The President of the Writers" Union of Armenia praised the initiative to award the Sa"adi Award to the selected Armenian Translator and said that holding such programs was effective in honoring the pioneers of translation, as well as encouraging young translators. He also announced his readiness to cooperate in compiling a book in Iran about the works of Armenian writers and poets.

Organizing programs to commemorate Iranian poets and writers, exchanging delegations of Iranian and Armenian poets and writers, and publishing translations of poems and short stories by contemporary Iranian poets and writers in the official publication of the Writers" Union of Armenia were among other agreements reached during this detailed working meeting.
