Imam Hussein (AS) is a unique figure both in the history of all religions and nations, said George Saliba, the Archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, at a commemoration ceremony of the uprising by Imam Husein (AS) which was held in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Mission in Lebanon.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Culture and Relation Organization (ICRO), the commemoration ceremony of the Tragic event of Karbala was held in a special manner in one of the Syriac Orthodox churches in Mount Lebanon. This ceremony was met with an unprecedented welcome by the followers of different religions, which in itself indicates the humane and universal mission of the Imam Hussein (AS) movement.
The Syriac Orthodox Church in Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, in cooperation with the Iranian Cultural Mission in Lebanon, held a symposium attended by Lebanese scholars, thinkers and writers on the occasion of Muharram and the days of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
The meeting was attended by Abbas Khamehyar, Iranian Cultural Attache in Beirut, Hojjatoleslam and Muslims Mohammad Hossein Mahdavi Mehr, President of Mustafa University in Lebanon and Syria, Hojjatoleslam Mahdavian, Professor of Islamic Sciences, Seyed Ali Issa Tabataba"i and large number of scholars, writers and Prominent Christian thinkers.
George Saliba, Archbishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church said we are now living in the days of mourning for a man who was martyred by jealousy and hypocrisy and ascended to heaven. Saliba added: Imam Hussein (AS) was the victim of the malice of the Umayyads and the Al- Sufyan against the Household the Holy Prophet of Islam. He further enumerated the moral virtues and personality traits of the martyrs and said the personality of Imam Hussein (AS) has several special moral characteristics and virtues that distinguish him from other people and make him one of the great men.

The Cultural Attache of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Beirut, Abbas Khamehyar speaking at the same ceremony said, the uprising of Imam Husein (AS) was a movement for humanity, and the flame of this uprising will never extinguish not because of shedding innocent blood but because this uprising was a turning point that defined the border between right and wrong
The uprising of Ashura was to breathe new life into the body of humanity
The next speaker was Cardinal Essam John Darwish, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the cities of Farzel, Zahle and the Bekaa region of Lebanon. He said despite the tragedy of the events of Ashura, the uprising of Ashura was in fact a great and clear victory against suffering and betrayal adding that Ashura has many similarities with the story of Christianity, because Jesus Christ was crucified after rising up against human betrayal, so the story of Jesus Christ is the story of victory over pain and death.
Then, Michel Kaadi, a Christian writer and scholar, spoke about the personality traits of Imam Hussein (AS) and the importance of his reformist and liberation movement. The Hosseini movement has brought important effects and consequences for the freedom-loving people throughout history
Imam Hussein (AS) continued the movement of the prophets
Then, Antoine Bara, a Christian writer and researcher from Syria, in his speech, described Imam Hussein (AS) as a continuation of the movement of the divine prophets. The Syrian Christian writer and researcher emphasized Yazid intended to destroy the generation of the Prophet (PBUH) but the truth was revealed to the true believers and contrary to Yazid"s wishes and goals, the name and uprising of Hussein (AS) remained.
The next speaker was John Qassis, former president of the Lebanese Actors Guild stated that the name of Imam Hussein (AS) reminds him of the personality and life of Jesus Christ: without any exaggeration and bias, we can say that the life and personality of Imam Hussein and Jesus Christ have a lot in common. The life story of both characters is tragic and its theme or unifying elements was the defense of rights, perseverance and sacrifice.
Elias Zoghib, President of the Lebanese Writers" Association, read a beautiful note to Imam Hussein (AS) in which he expressed his devotion to the Lord of the martyrs; He called on Muslims and Christians to unite and work together to achieve common goals and interests and to shape the process of the new civilization. He said if Imam Hussein (AS) did not rise and be martyred, the oppressed would not be victorious over the oppressors, so the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) paved the way for the victory of the oppressed over the oppressor.
