`Id Prayers

The prayers performed at the time of the two Muslim festivals (sing. `id), i.e. `Id al-Fitr and `Id al-Adha (Qurban), require the same conditions as those of the Friday prayer. The timing of the `Id Prayer is the period from the sunrise to the shar`i noon. It comprises two rak`ahs. One time recitation of the surahs of Hamd and Ikhlas are followed by five and four qunuts in the first and second rak`ahs, with takbirs between each qunut. The two sermons are delivered after the prayer, unlike in the Friday prayer where the sermons are delivered beforehand. `Id prayers are among the most conspicuous forms of collective religious rituals in Islam. These festivals are also accompanied by rites that are performed by smaller groups of people, such as making sacrifices and feeding others.
