Indonesian Ministry of Religion held the First International Seminar on Religion and Education in an effort to establish effective and clear mechanisms for promotion of Religious and Quranic Culture.

 According to Public Relations Department of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the gathering was jointly sponsored by Indonesian Ministry of Religion, Sharif Hedayatollah University and Forum of Religious Scholars of Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) at Santika Hotel in Jakarta attended by large number of religious and academic figures.

The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the seminar, Abdolrahman Masaud in his opening remarks of the gathering, spoke about the importance of the question of education and religion for Indonesian government.

Indonesian Minister of Religion, Lukman Seifoddin, also speaking at the opening ceremony of the gathering said today everyone understands that religion plays an Important role in safeguarding human dignity and that religion by using the positive elements bestowed to human being, can be used as an important means to unite diversity and vice versa.

 He said we expect that religious scholars and thinkers by holding conferences of this kind to bring the sound and correct methods of educations into religious education system and country"s academic centers.

 On the sideline of the conference, Iranian Cultural Attaché to Indonesia, Mehrdad Rakshandeh, met the Indonesian Minister of Religion and exchanged views on expansion of Quranic activities and religious dialogue.
