Characteristics of New Islamic Civilization

The centrality of Quranic laws.

The Qur"an, the sacred book of Islam, is the fundamental basis of the religion and the cornerstone of the faith. While there are often various differences of interpretation among Muslim"s scholars, no one can deny the Qur"an"s authenticity as divine revelation and still remain within the Islamic community.

According to public relations Department of Islamic Culture and Relation Organization (ICRO), and as reported by Iranian Cultural Mission in Tanzania The centrality sometimes attributed to Muhammad by non-Muslims, for believers it is nothing less than the word of God as conveyed by the angel Jibril to the Prophet. Its centrality to Islam is held to be the Divine Word made manifest in this world. The Qur"an, its text unchanged and its power undiminished for nearly 14 centuries, is a source of guidance.

Collective wisdom

"Collective wisdom" may not refer merely to the collective knowledge of a particular society or culture, but can refer instead to wisdom understood as a collective interpretation of human experience, of what kind of intellect, knowledge, experience, and judgment is required to live a good and successful human life as such. Collective wisdom provides an interpretation of what it means to be human and what thoughts, skills, and actions are required to live a successful human life at the most general level of analysis. Collective wisdom can have a civilizing effect on individuals, and indirectly on societies, by providing a type of orienting theoretical and practical framework for understanding the proper relationship between the self, others, and the world.

Émile Durkheim argues in The Elementary Forms of Religious Life (1912)21 that society by definition constitutes a higher intelligence because it transcends the individual over space and time, thereby achieving collective wisdom. Collective wisdom, which may be said to have a more distinctly human quality is contained in the Quran. Drawing from the idea of universal truth, the point of collective wisdom is to make life easier or more enjoyable through understanding human behavior

Betterment of international relations.

The evolution of Orthodox International Relations was subject to international political determinants beginning with the First World War and continuing through, the Second World War, The Cold War and finally the contemporary period characterized by U.S. Hegemony, Globalization and post 9/11 international politics. The theory and implementation of international relations is determined by few super powers which control media, economy and world politics.

International Relations, under New Islamic Civilization, will be a systemic theory, of not how states interact with each other or how the system affects the state, but it is rather a concept of world order that focuses on the relations between the Muslim and the non-Muslim sphere and how that realm should be ordered. The idea is to have a connection between Islam and the conduct of International Relations.

Harris Proctor, necessitated the need for Islamic theory in International theory as he says, "Islamic International Relations theory evolved in respect to the changing nature of our international political world. U.S. foreign policy, Western norms and whole range of other suggestions still come up lacking. What is needed is to understand the Islamic world on its own not on Western terms. This kind of Westphalian secular reading of I.R. in the Islamic world on its own is impoverished". Proctor finally concludes as he says, "We need an Islamic theory of I.R. alongside orthodox concepts to truly grapple effectively with these kinds of questions.

OIC and the support for New Islamic Civilization

Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC), a collective voice of the Muslim world, a united body, and symbol of unity for the Muslim countries irrespective of any ethnicity, race, historical, geographical or political diversity plays a major role in support member countries to acquire confidence, dignity and independence in order to enjoy precious natural resources as well as academic, industrial and cultural capabilities within themselves through conventions and charter such as economic affairs, science and technology.

Transfer of technology as the first step towards New Islamic Civilization

As the world become digitalized, the power of technology is undeniable truth for any development in the digital era. The Eighth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference held in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, from 9-11 Shaaban 1418H, corresponding to 9-11 December 1997 with the resolution number 131 explains, "The Conference reaffirmed the need for scientific and technological exchange for peaceful purposes and for the enhancement of social and economic development, calling on all States  and particularly the developed countries  to initiate comprehensive talks to establish general non-discriminatory guidelines for the transfer of advanced technology, materials and equipment which have military applications.  The resolution also urged the relevant international Organizations and agencies to facilitate the transfer of science and technology to the developing countries for peaceful purposes.". This OIC resolution implementation saves as the stepping stone for New Islamic Civilization.

 Media and New Islamic Civilization

The Western media tend to portray Muslims in an overwhelmingly negative manner, frequently associating Islam with terrorism, extremism, and a cultural otherness that conflicts with mainstream values. Given the influence of the media in shaping public perceptions, this negative representation of Islam likely plays a role in how Muslims are viewed and treated by the public. Under this theme, the islamophobia created by media is purposely to hinder any movement under Islamic name to be violent and threat to community which is contrary to true teachings of Islam.

New Islamic Civilization is guided by OIC principles

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC): is guided and inspired by the noble teachings of Islam, which enjoin the Islamic Ummah to strengthen ties of solidarity, understanding and tolerance, resolve to act in common purpose so as to strengthen effective cooperation between and among Muslim countries and with countries beyond so as to better deal with challenges and opportunities facing them; uniting to commit ourselves(member states) to create a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for our peoples(Muslims), in the spirit of openness, dialogue and partnership.

 The principle of equality

All human beings are equal in Islam in regard to the essence of their dignity and worth. Allah has declared this in the Qur"an by stating that "We have bestowed dignity on the progeny of Adam" (Quran: 17:70 ). Allah created all human beings from Adam and Hawa, therefore, the source of creation is the same regardless of differences in religion, the fact remains that we are all brothers and sisters in humanity as Imam Ali (a) says: "People are of two kinds: either your brothers in faith or your equals in humanity."

 Justice

The Islamic principle at the core of preserving the dignity of human beings is justice. The centrality of justice to the Islamic value system is displayed by the Qur"anic verse that says: "We sent our messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance (of Right and Wrong) in order to establish justice among the people....." Al-Hadid, 57:25 This shows that justice is a central goal of all revelation and scriptures sent to humanity.

 Clash of civilizations

The enemy of Islam, may rise question and critics that the new Islamic aimed at making Iran a hegemonic power in Muslim world as opposed to other western super power. The teachings of Islam from one of the grand grandchildren of Prophet Muhammad (S) says "The well-being of people"s affairs lie in coexistence", so the concept New Islamic civilization will co-existence with other civilizations, as it is offering a concept of coexisting instead of competing ones.

 Justification for New Islamic Civilization

The current situation in Islamic countries is not the same in terms of science, wealth, security and political power. This is something that the Islamic Republic of Iran has chosen, first to reduce the gap, and to achieve total Islamic civilization, that is compatible with the requirements of the present situations. The New Islamic Civilization can turn society into the ideal society that Islam wants, despite opponents who cite examples of pseudo-Muslims who misunderstood Islam, and use it wrongly to advocate terrorism, extremism which are highly supported by western Muslims" media. New Islamic Civilization is the solution, not for Muslims but to all who are being oppressed.
