Ebrahimi Turkaman in meeting Russian Deputy Minister of Culture;

Convergence of Iranian and Russian elites aimed at expansion of Cultural Cooperation

Chairman of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Mr. Abuzar Ebrahimi Turkaman in his meeting with visiting Russian Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr. Pavel Stepanov called for paving the ground for frequent meetings between Iranian and Russian elites and scholars aimed at reaching common understanding and promotion of cultural ties and cooperation.

According to Public Relations Department of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the Russian Deputy Minister of Culture is currently in Iran to attend the opening ceremony of Russian Cultural Week in Tehran and Qazvin.

 Chairman of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization elaborating on Iranian rich cultural potentials said in the past, information about other countries was very limited but today we are aware of the culture test and cultural situation of other countries and Russia in Particular.

 Mr. Turkaman said our cultural potentials are found interesting by many countries all across the world.

 He added that for conveying culture to other nations, one must be able to introduce its cultural capacities and we have chosen cultural dialogue as the best means for improving friendly relations with other nations.

Turkaman by referring to first round of cultural dialogue between Islamic Republic of Iran and Russian Federation which was held in Moscow through coordination of Iranian Cultural Attaché to Russian Capital, said we expect Russian cooperation for holding the second round of such dialogue in Tehran.

 He also called for establishment of Caspian Foundation to bring about closer cultural cooperation, spiritual ties and friendly relations among the Caspian Sea literal states (Iran, Russia, Turkmenistan, Republic of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan).

 Mr. Turkaman also underlined the importance of the classic literature and said literary heritage of each nation is taken shape by great poets and writers, people like Molana , Hafez, Saadi and Tolstoy adding that people in charge of cultural affairs, should support these personalities because , cinema, theater and painting have their roots in classical literature.

 The Russian Deputy Minister of Culture for his part thanked Islamic Culture and Relations Organization for its efforts and coordination works for holding the Russian Cultural Week and called for holding of continued cultural events between the two nations.

 Mr. Stepanov called for Iranian Puppet Theater to perform in Russia as well as holding Iranian Cinema Days, holding arts and cultural exhibitions in Russia and vice versa, performance of Iranian Symphonic Orchestra  in Russian and establishment of a cultural Committee between Tehran and Moscow in 2020.

 The high ranking Russian Cultural official said due to rapid and comprehensive developments and events taking place in the world and entry of various variables into international scene which influences relations among people, cultural exchanges is one of the best instruments for bringing nations closer to each other.

 He also called for expansion of Tehran- Mosco relations and underlined importance of meeting between Iranian and Russian intellectuals for promoting cultural cooperation between the two countries.

 The Russian Cultural Week was inaugurated today Saturday November 9 in a ceremony at 3pm at the Vahdat Hall in down town Tehran through joint efforts of Islamic Culture and Relations Organization and Russian Cultural Ministry. This 5-day cultural event is due to move to Qazvin in coming days.

The opening ceremony of the Russian Cultural Week was attended by cultural officials of two countries as well as a number of foreign diplomats stationed in Tehran.

 In addition to cultural preprograms an exhibition of Russian handicrafts is also due to open on Sunday 10 at Niavaran Palace Museum for a period of 4 years.
