A conference on the role of Muslim women in shaping social reforms was held in Kuala Lumpur The Islamic Republic of Iran's cultural center in Malaysia proposed and initiated the holding of the 2024 World Muslim Women's Assembly with the theme "The role of Muslim women in shaping social reforms in Kuala Lumpur"
Kuala Lumpur, January 18, 2024 - Yesterday marked the inauguration of the Global Muslim Women Forum 2024, an event dedicated to exploring the evolving discourse on women, gender, and societal roles within the context of Islamic teachings and global perspectives.
The Global Muslim Women Forum 2024 is a platform for constructive dialogue and exchange of ideas about Islamic perspectives on gender.
Professor Dr. Maszlee Malik, the Chairman of the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia, extended a warm welcome at the commencement of the event. Dr. Habibreza Arzani, the Cultural Counsellor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Malaysia, delivered the opening speech, setting the tone for the occasion. Dato' Halimah Mohd Said, the Coordinator-Curator of Women In Art, followed suit with her opening address for the Women in Art Exhibition held at the venue.
YB Puan Anfaal Saari, the Women Development & Community Welfare Exco of the Selangor State Assembly, shared her insights and perspectives in the Keynote Speech. Finally, Professor Dato' Dr. Saadiah Mohamad, a Member of the Board of Directors of IAIS Malaysia, delivered the closing speech, concluding the event with her remarks.
The forum boasts an impressive line-up of speakers of panel discussions featuring experts such as Prof. Datin Dr. Raihanah Abdullah (Dept. Shariah & Law, Academy of Islamic Studies, UM), Dr. Zahra Osati (Women Studies Activist), Dr. Muna H. Bilgrami (University of Johannesburg, South Africa), Prof. Dr. Haslinda Abdullah (Institute for Social Science Studies - IPSAS UPM), Dr. Basma Abdelgafar (Deputy President, Maqasid Institute Global), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syaza Farhana M. Shukri (Head, Dept. of Political Science, IIUM), Dr. Asma Abdullah (VP, Assoc. of Voices of Peace, Conscience & Reason - PCORE) and Prof. Dr. Syed Farid Alatas (National University Singapore) who delved into crucial topics like women's roles in societies in building an inclusive Madani society to empower women.
