Report on the Meeting Between Dr. Hosseinpour and the Mawlawi and Members of the Sri Lanka Sufi Spiritual Association

On Saturday, January 10, 2026 (20 Dey 1404), Dr. Hosseinpour, Deputy for Resource Development at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), accompanied by Mr. Ali Kebrāei-zādeh, met and held talks at the Cultural Office with Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim, founder, and several members of the Sri Lanka Sufi Spiritual Association.

During the cordial meeting, Dr. Hosseinpour spoke in detail about the situation of Muslims worldwide, the necessity of Islamic unity, the Islamic Revolution’s support for Muslims and the oppressed across the globe, the anti-arrogance stance of the Revolution, the crimes of the United States and Israel, and the resilience of the Iranian people.

Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim, who is a memorizer (Hafiz) of the entire Holy Qur’an, endorsed the remarks of the ICRO Deputy and referred to the cooperation between the Sufi Spiritual Association and the Cultural Office. He noted that several years ago, following terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka that resulted in the deaths of dozens of people, propaganda portrayed Islam as a religion of terrorism and Muslims as terrorists. Consequently, conditions became difficult for Muslims in the multi-religious society of Sri Lanka.

He explained that for this reason, the Sufi Spiritual Association was established to present the true image of Islam in the country. The Association currently has more than ten thousand members and has established branches throughout Sri Lanka. It carries out a wide range of activities, particularly supporting educational programs and the schooling of children from underprivileged families, without regard to their religion or beliefs.

Dr. Abdullah further stated that they have concluded the need to become more familiar with Shi‘a thought. He added that religious extremists affiliated with Wahhabism exert pressure on them and accuse them of cooperating with Shi‘a communities. He emphasized that they recognize Shi‘a thought as one of solidarity and unity, and have observed that, unlike many Muslim countries, Iran has supported the Muslims of Gaza and Palestine, even enduring considerable hardships in doing so.

He affirmed their belief in the Islamic Revolution and referred to their strong participation in the program “Empathy in the Light of Alawi Wisdom,” organized by the Cultural Office on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (peace be upon him).

Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim requested that, if possible, a delegation from the Sri Lanka Sufi Spiritual Association be given the opportunity to travel to Iran to gain deeper familiarity with Shi‘a intellectual foundations. Dr. Hosseinpour accepted the request. The ICRO Deputy for Development and Resources also stressed the importance of learning the Persian language as a means of understanding the foundations of the Islamic Revolution, prominent Iranian figures, and the thought of the Leaders of the Revolution. Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim welcomed these proposals.

It is noteworthy that following the unrest attributed to elements affiliated with Mossad and the United States in Iran, Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim and several members of the Sufi Association visited the Cultural Office on January 14, 2026 (24 Dey 1404) and declared their support for the Leadership and the Islamic Revolution.
