The Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Zimbabwe was today (4 March 2024) at the Harare Polytechnic in Harare where he was presented with an opportunity to meet and address all the students in the media school of journalism as part of a cultural exchange programme between the polytechnic and the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Iran.
Before addressing the students, Mr. Bakhtiyar met the Polytechnic principal, Engineer Tafadzwa Mudondo, where both parties agreed to speedily facilitate cultural exchange programmes between Iran and Zimbabwe.
Mr. Bakhtiyar said he intends to grow the cultural relations between Zimbabwe, mostly in the cultural fields of education, sciences, art, and tourism.
He emphasized that it would be prudent for the Harare Polytechnic to formulate a Memorandum of Understanding with Polytechnics and Universities in Iran that will serve as the special vehicle for driving relations between the polytechnics.
In response, the principal noted that this initial cultural exchange programme will open further doors for more cooperation between his polytechnic and sister institutions in Iran as well as debunk the misconceptions and misperceptions on Iran as a country. He further welcomed the impending implementation of the MoU, saying that the initiative will further buttress the working relationship between his polytechnic and sister polytechnics in Iran.
After his courtesy call on the principal, Mr. Bakhtiyar was shown around the media training school radio studios, where he saw for himself the obsolete equipment that the polytechnic said needed to be replaced. Staff in the media school said that they look forward to tapping into the much more advanced and sophisticated Iranian broadcasting equipment in order to expose their students to the latest technology and equipment.
Mr. Bakhtiyar later gave an interview to the polytechnic’s radio station. During the interview, the cultural counselor talked about the cultural relations between Zimbabwe and Iran. He also talked about the many and diverse opportunities that abound in Iran for the discerning visitor to the country.
After the tour and radio interview, Mr. Bakhtiyar went on to address the students, where he articulated and shared his views on deepening the cultural relations between Iran and Zimbabwe.
He further made a detailed analytical presentation on the geographical position of Iran in Asia, the Islamic Revolution of Iran, as well as its achievements in medicine, education, technology, health, sciences, tourism, and all the UNESCO recognized heritage sites.
Mr. Bakhtiyar said the Islamic Republic was so proud of its achievements despite facing the effects of the imposed sanctions and the evil machinations of America.
He noted that Iran was also proud of its sisterly relations with Zimbabwe, and was working so tirelessly towards the consolidation of the relations. The cultural counselor told the expectant students that Iran was more than ready to offer scholarships cutting across most areas of study to deserving Harare polytechnic students.
In a question-and-answer session, it was abundantly clear that the students were so hungry to acquire more information on Iran as a giant on the Asian continent.
