Fatima Zahra (as) College observed the United Nations International Families Day at the college.
In attendance were about 180 people mostly students, teachers and Muslim and Christian ladies and gentlemen from several townships of Harare. Among dignitaries were United Nations Information representative Mr. Jabulani Nyamweda and the guest of honor the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Hamid Bakhtiyar.  The day was observed under the “Families from Religious Perspectives”
Students presented poem, song and speeches about the family values from Christian, Muslim and African Traditional Religion. Speaking at the occasion Mr. Nyamweda stated that the International Day of Families was established in 1993 by United Nations in order to promote the wellbeing and care of families throughout the world. Mr. Bakhtiyar presented about Family values from an Islamic perspective. He stated that the family is the foundation of the society and urged parents to fulfill their duties well in order to ensure a health society and nation. He also slammed the west for propagating wayward culture of gayism and lesbianism.  He added that Muslim family should be centered on love, kindness, justice and good leadership.
Sheikh Abdullah Makwinja stated that parents should protect their families from drugs and highlighted the dangers of the western propaganda on issues on homosexuality being propagated as human rights. Mrs. Hawa Yusuf a senior member of Fatima Zahra (as) Women’s Organisation highlighted the importance of strengthening of family ties as means of preserving family values.   
At the end students asked questions and later students were asked questions about the presentations.
