GENERAL QASSEM SOLEIMANI ESSAY COMPETITION WINNERS RECEIVE PRIZES
The Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Iran in Zimbabwe has handed over prizes to the winners of an essay writing competition held in honour of Martyr General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated by the evil American regime some three years ago in Baghdad, Iraq. The competition, which attracted many top writers in Zimbabwe, was won by Gibson Nyikadzino, a top journalist from the Herald, Zimbabwe’s top state newspaper.

The essay writing competition was the third to be held since 2023.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the prizes to the winners held at the Cultural Centre offices in Harare on Thursday, 22 February 2024, the Cultural Counsellor, Mr Hamid Bakhtiyar, said that General Soleimani played a very central role in resisting the arrogant super powers of the world by supporting all the freedom seeking oppressed people of the world.
He noted that despite the assassination of General Qassem and the sanctions imposed by America, Iran will continue with its development trajectory as it seeks to assert itself as major economic global player. Mr. Bakhtiyar said General Soleimani was a global giant and icon whose influence is still defining world affairs.
He said resisting the arrogant superpowers should not be an Iranian issue alone, but should be a be global issue that deserve international cooperation.
The Cultural Counsellor noted the changing global power dynamics in the world, citing and singling out South Africa for taking the courage to take Israel to the International Court of Justice for the mass killing of innocent and unarmed civilians in Palestine.
The essay competition winners noted that General Soleimani was a hero who gave up his life for the freedom of humanity.
They noted that the revered General was an ideological and principled man who fought to correct an unjust global order that was being advocated for by the evil oppressors.
Mr Nyikadzino, the competition winner, said the memories of the assassination of General Soleimani by the American army brings anguish in the minds of Zimbabweans as they are and have been suffering from the American imposed sanctions since the year 2000 when Zimbabwe embarked on a journey to reclaim its land from the colonial master, Britain.
