Saturday, the 11th of November 2023 is a day which will probably go down the chronicles of history as the day when diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans from various persuasions came together under the soaring high temperatures to march and show empathy and solidarity to the devasted but courageous people of Palestine suffering under the daily bombardment of the Zionist regime of Israel.
Saturday, the 11th November 2023 is a day which will probably go down the chronicles of history as the day when diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans from various persuasions came together under the soaring high temperatures to march and show empathy and solidarity to the devasted but courageous people of Palestine suffering under the daily bombardment of the Zionist regime of Israel. The march was mostly made up of Muslim and Christians.
The march brought together top diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe, namely the Iranian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Abbas Navazani, the Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr. Tamer Almassri, as well as Ambassadors from Turkey, Pakistan and the Consul at the Algerian embassy, the Cultural Counsellor at the Embassy of Iran, Mr Hamid Bakhtiyar, as well as top Zimbabwe government officials.
The Guest of Honour was the Minister of War Veterans Affairs in the Government of Zimbabwe, Honourable Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa.
Dr. Almassri, the Palestinian Ambassador, who spoke first, castigated some members of the International Community for turning a blind eye to the Israeli atrocities and the continued occupation of Palestinian territories.
Guest of Honour, Minister Mutsvangwa said it was not surprising that the same imperialists that Zimbabwe had fought against in its war against colonialism, were the same countries that were supporting Israel. He said because Israel was bend on annihilating the Palestinian people, Zimbabwe had decided to add its voice to the outcry for an end to the barbaric killing of the innocent Palestinians by the aggressor, Israel.
Over a thousand citizens, gathered at a local shopping mall in the leafy suburb of Mt. Pleasant mid-morning to commence the march. Thereafter, they then proceeded to the United Nations and British embassy offices where they presented petitions condemning the brutal Israeli actions on the Palestinian people.
