Mourner of Imam Hussein Commemorates the Day of Ashura

Monday 7 July 2025 Yesterday marked a Sorrowful Day of Ashura, a day of grief magnified with bravery and distinctive courage. the world has gathered in commemoration of Imam Hussein (as). Miles away from barren lands of Karbala, vibrant communities in Zimbabwe, gathered yesterday to mourn and lament for Imam Hussein (as), his family and companions which is a testament to the living inspiration of truthfulness in standing against oppression and aggression.

On this day, the fate of Islam was very important more than ever as this day was foretold years ago when he was born, held by the warm hands of the Prophet of Islam. Prophet Muhammad (SAW), wept upon a glance and glimpse into the future of his innocent grandson Imam Hussein (as) whose fate had been already been sealed with unimaginable suffering with an ultimate sacrifice for the future of Muslims who only believed in the unseen and told stories of Karbala, but yet embraced the purity of Islam preserved by the blood of Imam Hussein (as) and his companions on the Day of Ashura.

Mourning processions were held in a variety of locations across Zimbabwe, including Harare and Mutare. These commemorations were widely characterized by the recitation of nouhas and the delivery of lectures, serving as a constant reminder and in tribute to the significant historical event when Imam Hussein's (as) tents were set on fire after he and his 72 companions were martyred on Ashura by the tyrannical ruler Yazid during the Battle of Karbala, which occurred in 680 AD. Their defiance of injustice and unwavering commitment to truth and justice have made them renowned figures of resistance. This historical event has served as an example for oppressed people all across the world

Indeed, the spirit of Ashura, with its profound message of resistance to injustice and oppression, resonates strongly in the modern world. It serves as a sharp reminder that the suffering of Palestinian women, children, the elder, who are subjected to Zionist Regime aggressions by violence, poverty, sickness, and despair, are not isolated episodes, but rather part of a larger pattern of oppression that requires global attention and action. These parallels between the historical events commemorated during Ashura and the current plight in various parts of the world, including Palestine, highlight the timeless need for courage, solidarity, and steadfast commitment in defending the oppressed against aggressors, even when it appears that the world is deliberately hesitant to respond.
