NOWRUZ, A GATEWAY TO IRANIAN CULTURE

HARARE, 24 MARCH 2025 The Cultural Centre of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Zimbabwe has launched one of the most outstanding and vibrant Nowruz `celebrations to ever be held in Zimbabwe.

The celebrations were headlined by Makseth International School, a multi-cultural and multi racial school located in Kadoma town, west of Zimbabwe. The celebrations were held this Monday, the 24th March 2025 at the Cultural Centre in Harare.

In his remarks marking the launch of the Nowruz week, the Cultural Counsellor at the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr Hamid Bakhtiyar said Nowruz was the gateway to the world acclaimed and famous Iranian culture.

He expressed his utmost satisfaction with the growth of cultural relations between Zimbabwe and Iran that have of late seen more cultural exchange programmes being undertaken between the two countries.

Mr Bakhtiyar took most of the time explaining in intricate detail all the aspects of Iranian culture, ranging from the history of Iran, the Islamic Revolution, the essence of Nowruz, the handicraft making process, the importance of historical sites as cultural points of connection, the Iranian family set up and the importance of the Iranian cultural industries in the preservation of the broader cultural legacy of the country, among other topics covered.

His presentation was well received as it told the cultural story of Iran in a very simple way that left the school children and their teachers expressing their desire to visit Iran in order to experience the hospitality of the country formerly known as Persia.

A school representative praised Iran’s rich cultural legacy. She said her school values the friendship and cultural exchange built through Nowruz.

The Makseth International School Marimba band featuring the young leaners gave a scintillating and outstanding performance that left everyone clamouring for more. The marimba musical instrument is found in the percussion family of  musical instruments and is found in other parts of the world. The instrument produces its own unique sound.

The celebrations were also attended by other diplomats from the embassy of Iran and members of the Content Creators of Zimbabwe who recently visited Iran, among others.
