The fifty-fifth clip titled "Let's make our Thursdays Quranic" was released

Last Friday, we elaborated on the ayahs focusing on the manner of creation of human beings. These ayahs refer to death, which is inevitable and decreed for all created things, including mankind – the best of creation. Ayah 11 points to the illogical attitude of the unbelievers towards the Day of Resurrection and the meeting with the Almighty Creator, including their disbelief in restoration of every person in his/her original shape after death had reduced the bones to dust. They say: Shall we be brought forth again after our bodies have decomposed and all traces of our physical remains have disappeared in the ground? In response ayah 12 means to say: When the angel of death took away your life, what was decomposed, as per the natural process, was your body, which will be restored in the original form on the Day of Resurrection as you are assembled in the presence of God, for Whom

We start from where we left you last Friday and here are ayahs 10 and 11 of Surah Sajdah:

وقالوا أإذا ضللْنا فی الْأرْض أإنّا لفی خلْقٍ جدیدٍ ۚ بلْ هم بلقاء ربّهمْ کافرون

قلْ یتوفّاکم مّلک الْموْت الّذی وکّل بکمْ ثمّ إلىٰ ربّکمْ ترْجعون

“They say: ‘When we have been lost in the dust, shall we be indeed created anew?’ Rather they disbelieve in the encounter with their Lord.”

“Say, ‘You will be taken away by the angel of death, who has been charged with you. Then you will be brought back to your Lord.”

In response ayah 12 means to say: When the angel of death took away your life, what was decomposed, as per the natural process, was your body, which will be restored in the original form on the Day of Resurrection as you are assembled in the presence of God, for Whom your restoration is not a problem, since it was He Who created you in the first place from nothing without any previous design. In other words, the soul that had departed from the body at the time of death, will, on the Day of Resurrection, again blown into the restored human body, for the final judgement.

From these ayahs we learn that:

  1. Resurrection is physical, a factor that the unbelievers deny because of their failure to understand the infinite power of the Lord Most High.
  2. When the soul departs from the body at the time of death and the body becomes decomposed, with organs turning into dust and eaten by worms and insects, the loss of the limbs and organs doesn’t mean the loss of identity of the deceased.
  3. On the Day of Resurrection, the physical shape is restored anew and the soul breathed back into it for the final judgement of the very same person for the deeds he/she had done in life

Now we listen to and read ayah 12 of Surah Sajdah:

ولوْ ترىٰ إذ الْمجْرمون ناکسو رءوسهمْ عند ربّهمْ ربّنا أبْصرْنا وسمعْنا فارْجعْنا نعْملْ صالحًا إنّا موقنون

“Were you to see when the guilty hang their heads before their Lord [confessing], ‘Our Lord! We have seen and heard. Send us back so that we may act righteously. Indeed we are [now] convinced.”

The previous ayahs expressed the unbelievers’ denial of the resurrection. The ayah addressing the Prophet and the believers, means to say: Wish, you see how the guilty on the Day of Resurrection lower their heads in shame, and realizing the power of the Creator Who has restored them in their original form, beseech us to give them a chance to return to the mortal world for rectifying their wrongs, but their pleas will not be accepted, because they had been given ample time and opportunities while alive to develop proper cognizance of Allah and to obey His commandments. In other words, on the Day of Resurrection, the unbelievers seeing the blazing fires of hell and hearing the wail of those cast into it, declare that we will no more deny the Resurrection, since we have now become certain. But this confession is late and has no benefit for them. They will be told: Didn’t you hear the messages of the Prophets and didn’t you see their miracles they performed on God’s command in order to convince you? Why you deny them. What made you think that their words will not come true? You had no reason for rejecting their words and logical explanations. Instead, you indulged in sins and carnal desires on the assumption that you were enjoying life. 

From this ayah we learn that:

  1. On the Day of Resurrection, the unrepentant sinners who used to deny God and Day of Judgement will hang their heads in shame, and admit that they had been wrong.
  2. The faithful are sharp-sighted since they believe in the Day of Resurrection, as well as in paradise and hell, as had been taught to them by the Prophets of God.
  3. What is useful in the resurrection and source of salvation is good deeds.

Now we listen to and read ayahs 13 and 14 of Surah Sajdah:

ولوْ شئْنا لآتیْنا کلّ نفْسٍ هداها ولـٰکنْ حقّ الْقوْل منّی لأمْلأنّ جهنّم من الْجنّة والنّاس أجْمعین

فذوقوا بما نسیتمْ لقاء یوْمکمْ هـٰذا إنّا نسیناکمْ ۖ وذوقوا عذاب الْخلْد بما کنتمْ تعْملون

“Had We wished We would have given every soul its guidance, but My word became due [against the defiant]: Surely I will fill hell with all the [guilty] jinn and humans.”

“So taste [the punishment] for your having forgotten the encounter of this day of yours. We [too] have forgotten you. Taste the everlasting punishment because of what you used to do.”

They ayahs emphasize the optional feature of guidance and say: God has provided all means of guidance which include Prophets, Divine Books as well as the gift of intellect, the power of speech and the blessings of nature bestowed upon human beings as the best of creation. On this basis, God Almighty granted the freedom of will to mankind to discern right from wrong, and as per the messages delivered to them by the Prophets, chose the path of good deeds and shun the evil ways, without being forced. But many people, instead of accepting the truth, deceived themselves and chose carnal desires, and sins, and went astray towards the path that leads to the fires of hell.

Some persons say how is it possible that the Merciful God burns His servants in the fire of hell? These ayahs reject this illusion and mean to say: God bestows His mercy upon His servant as long as he/she does not deprive himself/herself of divine mercy. The mercy continues till the guilty servant repents and asks forgiveness, for; God is the Most Merciful and the Most Compassionate. But the guilty human who insists on sins and oppression and never think of repentance only deprive themselves of divine mercy. Such people are like someone who is standing on the edge of a terrifying precipice and despite the advice of others, without paying attention moves forward on the wrong path until he falls into self-destruction.

From these ayahs we learn that:

  1. Acceptance of guidance is based on free will, since faith cannot be forced upon anyone against that person’s choice.
  2. The All-Merciful God has provided ample opportunities for repentance and reform, but the wrongdoers deprive themselves of Divine Mercy, by choosing the consequences of His wrath.
  3. God never forgets or neglects anyone, and it is only the ingrate person who forgets God and even denies the existence of the Omnipresent Creator.
