Meeting of the Cultural Counselor of Iran with two deans of the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City
The presidents of the Asian Center Studies and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of the Philippines Diliman, while recalling their previous trip to Iran, highlighted the importance of facilitating the presence of professors and interested students in Iran to deepen their understanding of Iranian culture and civilization.
According to the report from the Public Relations Department of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Abdul Majid Abul Qasemi, the Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Philippines, held a meeting with Henelito A. Sevilla, the Dean and Professor of the Asian Center at the University of the Philippines, and Ms. Maria Bernadette Abrera, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
During the meeting, Sevilla and Ms. Abrera provided an overview of the Asian Center Studies and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of the Philippines Diliman. They also shared their fond memories of their previous trip to Iran and expressed the desire to continue and strengthen cooperation between their institutions. They stressed the importance of facilitating the visit of interested professors and students to Iran in order to gain a deeper understanding of Iranian culture and civilization.
Abul Qasemi, acknowledging the longstanding relations between Iran and the Philippines, expressed his hope to take positive steps in developing academic relations between the two countries during his tenure as the cultural counselor. He emphasized the potential for the universities of both countries to leverage each other's scientific and educational capacities.
During the consultation, various topics were discussed, including updating the memorandum of understanding between the University of Tehran and the Philippines, providing access to library resources at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy and the Center for Asian Studies on topics such as history, geography, politics, and the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran. They also discussed the possibility of organizing study trips for Asian Studies Center students to Iran and providing scholarship opportunities for Filipino students.
Other topics of discussion included offering in-person and virtual study opportunities for researchers and doctoral students, showcasing Iranian films and documentaries, sending a Persian language professor to teach at the University of the Philippines language faculty, and promoting research exchanges with the University of Isfahan.
