Welcome to our weekly program "Path towards Enlightenment" in which we present you a fluent and easy-to-understand explanation of the ayahs of the holy Qur’an. We start from where we left you last Friday and here are ayahs 7 to 10 of Surah Saaffaat:
- وحفْظًا مّن کلّ شیْطانٍ مّاردٍ
- لا یسّمّعون إلى الْملإ الأعْلى ویقْذفون من کلّ جانبٍ
- دحورًا ولهمْ عذابٌ واصبٌ
- إلاّ منْ خطف الْخطْفة فأتْبعه شهابٌ ثاقبٌ
“And to guard from any outcast devil.”
“They do not eavesdrop on the Ethereal Elite but are shot at from every side,”
“To drive them away, and for them there is a constant mortification,”
“Except him who snatches a snatch, whereat there pursues him a piercing flame.”
Last week we said God has adorned the sky above our heads, which is the nearest firmament to us, with stars; and the scenery of the star-studded sky is so beautiful that never do the eyes become tired of seeing them.
The ayahs that we recited to you now point to the impenetrable firmament of the heavens that is guarded by angels who thwart the attempts of any material or immaterial elements, such as the devils which are spirits without corporal bodies, from trying to eavesdrop on the discourses at the celestial assembly, and are driven away with volleys of blazes that appear to us like shooting or falling stars.
These ayahs give glad tidings to mankind that the devil and evil spirits have no power to interfere with our fate or meddle in the affairs entrusted to the angels by God Almighty, Who has decreed severe punishment for the rebellious jinn as well because of their disobedience of Divine Commandments after having been given the intellect to understand.
From these ayahs we learn that:
- No one can know what transpires in the ethereal heavens, and none can penetrate them.
- Eavesdropping on the words of others is evil and is denounced by Islam.
- The evil, whether mankind or jinn, will be punished for their disbelief, misuse of freedom, and unrepentant sins.
Now we listen to and read ayah 11 of Surah Saffat:
فاسْتفْتهمْ أهمْ أشدّ خلْقًا أم مّنْ خلقْنا إنّا خلقْناهم مّن طینٍ لّازبٍ
“Ask them, is their creation more prodigious or [that of other creatures] that We have created? Indeed We created them from a viscous clay.”
This ayah tells Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny), to ask the deniers of resurrection: What makes them doubt God’s Power and refusal to believe in the recreation after having been reduced to powdered bones after death.
The ayah means to say: Is it harder to create them again on the Day of Resurrection, or to create the great heavens? They are created from viscous clay. Doesn’t the deniers understand that human beings have been created from the combination of water and soil, and are nourished on these two elements, to whom they return on death, which means nothing is erased from the soil or earth.
It has now been scientifically proven that the physical characteristics of humans exist in minute particles, and the DNA of every person human, like fingerprints, is different from the others. So it is enough to have even a fraction of a person’s physical part to recreate him/her in the same original form on the Resurrection Day. Nothing is difficult for God Who in the first place created everything from nothingness, without design.
From this ayah we learn that:
- Ask the deniers to awaken their sleeping consciences in order to understand the infinite power of God, and how He creates and recreates the same thing.
- Doubts and denials arise because of weak faith, and nothing is impossible for God, Who has provided ample signs in the world of creation, such as the DNA, for the wonders of Resurrection.
