Eqlid and Its Incredible Nature

Located in the northern part of Fars Province and the foothills of the Zagros Mountains, Eqlid is about 2300 meters above sea level, which makes it the sixth-highest city in Iran. With a population of about 100 thousand people has a cold and dry climate, the maximum and minimum annual temperatures of Eqlid stand at 37 and minus 22 degrees Celsius. The total area of Eqlid is about 7200 square kilometers and its annual rainfall is more than 300 mm.

History of Eqlid

In their excavations, archaeologists have found remnants of seven thousand-year-old civilizations in Eqlid. In the past, Eqlid was located between the two cities of Shiraz and Isfahan, on the so-called royal road. This city was once considered the center of training war horses for the army of the Achaemenid king, Cyrus the Great. The available evidence proves that Eqlid was a prosperous city prior to the advent of Islam in Iran.

Historical Attractions of Eqlid

Being one of the historical cities of Fars province and also because of its natural and geographical location, Eqlid has many natural attractions for nature lovers.

Bol Mountain

With a height of 4050 meters, Bol (meaning high in the Pahlavi language) Mountain, which is located in the south of Eqlid, is the highest peak in Fars province and many rivers and springs originate from it. Most of these springs join together and form the Mangrove River, which eventually flows to the city of Abarkouh in Yazd province. Bol Mountain is one of the favorite destinations for mountain climbers.

Gur Bahram Swamp

55 km away from Eqlid, there is a swamp known as “Gur Bahram”. A story is narrated among the local people according to which during one of his hunting trips the Sassanid king, Bahram Gur (reigned from 421 to 438 AD), sank into this swamp and disappeared.

Mulla Sadra Dam

Molla Sadra Dam is one of the most important dams in Fars province and is located upstream of Doroudzan Dam. This dam has been built on the Tang-e Boraq River and the water of the lake behind it is sweet.

 

Rasulullah Spring

There is a spring in the southwest of Eqlid next to the agricultural fields of this city, which is considered sacred by the residents of the area. According to them, this spring is 1300 years old. This spring was called Shakab River in the past and, presently, the largest recreational complex of Eqlid city is located next to this spring, which is visited by many tourists every year to enjoy its nature and views.

Qadamgah Spring

There is a resort called “Qadamgah Spring” near the Sedeh district of the city of Eqlid, which is located at the foothill and has a green and tree-covered environment.

Balangan Spring

Balengan Spring is one of the sources of the Kor River and is located near the village of Hajiabad and Aspas, in the Sedeh district. The water that flows from the Balangan Spring goes towards the Mulla Sadra Dam and then heads to Tashk Lake by following the path of the Doroudzan Dam.

No Hunting Zone of Baisiran

The size of this area, which is located in the east of Eqlid, is about 150 thousand hectares. The rare plant and animal species in this area have greatly added to it as a tourist attraction. Among the plant species found in the Basiran region are mugworts, milkvetch, alhagi, ferula, spider flowers, safflower, jimsonweed, clove, spurges, fritillaries, common fumitory, grape hyacinth, mallow, Ronaldo, and peganum harmala. Goats, rams, sheep, foxes, deer, leopards, wolves, rabbits, tusks, hyenas, jackals, and birds such as partridges, partridge, kestrel, common buzzard, seagulls, quails, bimaculated lark, lark, white wagtail, Montagu’s harrier, and all kinds of migratory birds such as cranes, ducks, etc. can be seen in this area.
