Neor Lake
Located between the cities of Talesh, Ardebil, and Khalkhal (in Ardebil Province), this sweet water natural lake flows from the Baghru mountain range in northwest Iran. With an elevation of 2,500 meters above sea level, this Neor Lake is spread over an area of 210 hectares and comprises a small and a larger lake that join together in spring and form a single lake. The average depth of this lake is five meters. According to some geological experts, this lake is the highest glacial lake, that was formed during the Eocene period.
The name Neor is Mongolian meaning lake, and in Azerbaijani Turkish, it refers to a small lake to which no river flows.
Neor Lake is located in a region with diverse vegetation of terrestrial and aquatic plants and is the habitat for some species of migratory birds. This lake is of high habitation, ecotourism, beekeeping, agriculture, and livestock values and is a suitable place for breeding rainbow trout.
This lake is the starting point of one of the most beautiful hiking, cycling, and safari routes with beautiful natural landscapes, soaring mountains, and wildflowers, fishing, picnic, photography, horse watching, collecting medicinal plants, watching wild birds, witnessing nomadic life, boating, winter recreation, mountaineering, etc.
