Uganda marked the 34th commemoration of Imam Khomeini at Islamic University in Uganda
Commemoration of Imam Khomeini remembered by diplomats and scholars in Uganda
This event was organised by the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in cooperation with Islamic University in Uganda, Females' Campus.
Among the guests was the Dean of Ambassadors and the Ambassador of Eritrea, Ambassador of Russian Federation, High commission of Tanzania, The Honorary Consular of Syrian Arab Republic, The high commissioner of Rwanda, The High Commissioner of Nigeria, deputy Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, University Chancellors, Hon. Philip D. Katahoire, the Minister for External Relations in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Hon. Luyimbaazi Issah Katungulu, the African Youth Ambassador, students from Islamic University in Uganda, Al-Mustafa Islamic College, Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery, media partners.
While giving the opening remarks, Dr. Madina Nabukera Sebyala, the Director of Islamic University in Uganda Females' Campus informed participants that the campus opened in 2008 with 400 students and they have graduated 3,500 female students with faculty of Law, education, arts and social sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Management Studies among others. Currently they have 60 hectares of land with more than 1,071 students.
The Islamic University in Uganda, Females’ Campus was established in 2008 as a 4th Campus of IUIU intended exclusively for female students. It is situated at Kabojja, Wakiso District, off Old Masaka Road, 1 mile from Nateete Town.
The rationale for establishing a Females’ Campus was to increase access to Higher Education for the female students from English speaking African countries.
The Campus runs Day programmes on a Semester System. Plans are underway to launch Evening & Weekend Programmes to attract the female working class.
She was happy to cooperate with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Uganda through the Iranian Cultural Consulate.
She informed participants that they have interacted with the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on many occasions and she invited guests to Girl child education run to reach out to female students who can't afford tuition fees and other logistics.
While giving her submission, she said that leaders must practice democracy to better the society with principles of equity which is part of their respective values.
She noted that it's everyone's responsibility to touch lives positively in a number of ways regardless of financial circumstances.
On speaking about the commendation event, Prof. Adam Sebyala noted it’s time to renew our commitments to the faith and also mission.
He quoted V.K. Singh who said that “a nation that forgets its martyrs and soldiers will never attain greatness.” then it forgets its history and rallied members to always remember devoted servants including Imam Khomeini and the Ugandan martyrs who are remembered on 3rd June every year.
A man is contented with the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran as they transfer what they have to those in Africa and worldwide. The people of Iran chose to be the Islamic Republic of Iran through a referendum.
Imam Khomeini was a top Islamic scholar and charismatic leader coupled with exemplary characters that softened the hearts of his nation to support the Islamic Revolution.
He said that it's the leaders to suffer most to satisfy the people led in the society.
Maulana Ali Abbas Rezavi, Resident Leader of Khoja Shia Ithna Ashari Jamaat thanked the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Islamic University in Uganda for organizing the 34th death anniversary of Imam Khomeini.
He rallied participants on the social justice of society through advocating for the underprivileged in the society.
He said that while inspiring social change, he highlighted the relevance of Imam Khomeini's teachings in addressing contemporary challenges and inspiring positive social change, emphasizing the importance of justice, unity, and compassion.
He recognized the need for education as the most tools of realizing the potential and abilities of talented and innovative people.
Dr. Mustafa Tamouh, the Syrian Honorary Consular said that Syria and Iran are two countries with similar challenges and are the most sanctioned countries with the same enemies.
When we talk about the relationship between Iran and Syria, we can't miss out Imam Khomeini and it is not a secret that Syria has some unfair sanctions, some wars but we have won though it was created by certain countries in the western world.
The first supporter and great ally during these tough times has been the Islamic Republic of Iran and I want to assure you that anybody who tries to wage war on Syria will definitely be defeated.
"We should remember that some western countries don't want to see any sovereign Islamic society but it has been always to their disadvantage", he added.
I would like to inform m you that Imam Khomeini is a great leader to all of us and his life did not end with his life.
The founder of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Rouhullah Mousavi Khomeini (r.a) is a significant event for many individuals and communities and marks an important milestone in the history of Iran and the Islamic world. Imam Khomeini was a revered leader, scholar, and revolutionary whose teachings and vision continue to resonate with millions of people worldwide. This commemoration aims to commemorate his life, reflect on his impactful legacy, and explore the relevance of his teachings in contemporary times.
He said that those who divide Muslims on Shi'a-Sunni tendency will not win because Syria has 80 percent Sunni followers but Iran has stood with them yet it’s a Shi'a dominated country and rallied participants to always live with the legacies of Imam Khomeini.
Prof. Hyderi Abidi, the chairman board of governors at Kampala University quoted Imam Khomeini who said that life and death is in the hands of almighty Allah.
He said that Imam Khomeini's spirituality was so powerful that it was evident from Islamic thought.
He noted the philosophy of Imam Khomeini as he always had prime concern about life, that’s why weapons of mass destruction were not in his to-do-list as the holy Quran condemn destruction of lives.
Imam Khomeini respected the rights of neighbors as he used to say that he who hears the neighbours call and doesn't help then he's not part of us.
He encouraged parents to prioritize educating their children on morality and social behavior.
He said the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran was not only a leader of Iran but also a global leader.
Dr. Rouhollah Dehghani, the Rector of Al-Mustafa Islamic College recognized invited guests and challenged the scholars on the role of nationalism to the nation using the thoughts and ideals of Imam Khomeini.
He said that Imam recognized nationalism as a tool to support national unity, secret of victory, among others.
He congratulated the people of the Republic of Uganda for standing together against the homosexuality plan and neocolonialism which he noted that African people have rich traditional values that should be considered and embraced.
Sheikh Ntambi Jamil Kassim, the Rubaga Kadhi who represented Uganda Muslim Supreme Council congratulated Iranian community in Uganda for organizing the 34th death anniversary of Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He prayed for Imam Khomeini and the blessed the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran extended appreciation the administration of Islamic University in Uganda for hosting this great event.
He said that event is commemorated all over the world not only in Iran. He pledged for continued to work with the university on arrange of academic discussions and programs for further cooperation.
He noted that our need today, tomorrow and many years have passed since the apparent death of Imam Khomeini, but his memory is always alive among us and must remain alive, and we must use his legacy, his spirituality, his thought and his ideas.
He said that the main dimensions of Imam Khomeini's thoughts are: the dimension of spirituality, the dimension of rationality and the dimension of justice.
‘’In the dimension of rationality, Imam Khomeini uses wisdom, tact, thinking and calculating things. The same goes for justice. Imam Khomeini always moved on the path of justice. These dimensions must be seen together.
Relying on one of these dimensions, regardless of the other dimensions, leads society astray and deviates. This collection is a complete package of Imam's intellectual and spiritual heritage. The Imam himself, in his behavior, was both a guardian of rationality, a guardian of spirituality, and a guardian of justice’’
Manifestations of Imam Khomeini's rationality include: choosing democracy for the country's political system derived from his inflexibility in the face of the enemy and distrust of the enemy by injecting the spirit of self-confidence and self-reliance in the nation with the slogan "we can" through drafting a constitution and understanding the people He pointed out that they are the owners of the country.
Imam Khomeini's biggest contribution was the starting of Islamic Awakening and establishing an Islamic government in Iran, he noted.
