This meeting was graced by Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, the Iranian Cultural Counsellor and Hon. Luyimbaazi Issa Katungulu, the African Youth Ambassador
The delegation was led by MSAU President - Mr. Abdollah Mwanje Frank, Lady Vice President and Secretary for Women’s Affairs, sister Nawar Sabah Kitiibwa, sister Mutamuliza Sofia, General Secretary, Mr. Waswa Hassan, Regional Chairman Central, Miss Namuyomba Mariam Hamid, Finance Secretary.
The Muslim students Association of Uganda started in 1948 by Makerere Muslim league and has been offering career guidance, health talks, mentoring students, and the following are some its objectives according to General Secretary:
- To promote academic excellence among Muslim students in Uganda
- To promote moral uprightness among Muslim students
- To foster unity among Muslim students in Uganda
- To train Muslim students in leadership and management skills
- To safeguard Muslim students’ rights in various schools and institutions
- To promote the social welfare of the Muslim students
- To unite and coordinate Muslim students’ activities within Uganda
- To encourage Muslim parents, educate their children
- To prepare Muslim students to lead an Islamic life during and after school
- To represent Ugandan Muslim students on all regional, national and international forums.
They are working with different region with 65 members, 13 National Executive Committee and 5 board of trustees and 100 Delegates conference.
The major driver is to make a thinktank for students in Uganda.
The women affairs department handles capacity building programs, spiritual growth, entrepreneurship program, family and career program and counseling services.
Among other programs, sisters conference, regional visits, caravans, induction of members, Basic training projects in Butambala, Patron Congress on 17th February 2024, Regional Ramadhan seminars, MSAU competitions and Run, Regional Career Guidance programs, collaboration with Muslim organizations.
They requested for socio-cultural collaboration with the cultural consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to enable Muslim students realize their full potential through training and development, education scholarships, cultural and educational exchange programs, among others.
While speaking, Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, welcomed them and commended their exemplary work they do to ensure academic excellence of students.
He pledged maximum support towards the Muslim Students Association of Uganda through different programs and workshops that aim to bring insight in their creative minds.
He noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran offers scholarships to African students including Uganda from undergraduate level to Postgraduate levels in different fields.
He encouraged them to always to be creative and innovative to find solutions to the global world through research.
