World Family Day

World Family Day was organized by the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tanzania in cooperation with counterparts in Uganda and Kenya.

The introduction of World Family Day was made by Mrs. Nancy Faustine from Tanzania who said that the purpose of celebrating such an important day is to celebrate the responsibilities and duties that we have as families.

  1. The role and status of women from Islamic perspective in family and society by Dr. Mohammad Reza Mortazavi Nia from Tanzania who described the way how Islam looks at women, her roles and duties in the strong family life. He also wondered how western countries consider a woman as a tool of promotion of goods and services.

He rallied participants that it’s a master plan for the Western countries to break the strong family relation by distancing members of the family apart, children from parents and growing up without the contributions of the respective parents.

  1. Changing roles of women in the family by Dr. Kihumba from Kenya

She noted that women have joined professional jobs such as engineering, Medicine, socioeconomical development among others.

  1. The Role of women as Educators by Dr. Mariam Nakigudde Lugoloobi,an administrator from Makerere University Business School in Uganda noted that most of the rural children don’t finish up with school unlike those in urban areas.

She rallied participants to inspire young girls and women to voice out their concerns other than causing problems towards achieving their future.

  1. Women in the family and in society (Changing laws and breaking barriers) by Hajjat Khadija Omar Kayanda from Tanzania

She noted that women are the pioneers of the nation and the nation cannot go higher than its woman.

The Role of women as caregivers by Dr. Hadijjah Katongole, a lecturer from Kampala International University in Uganda noted that In 2015 the United Nations member states unanimously adopted the Sustainable Development Goals; a set of 17 goals and interlinked objectives designed to serve as a "shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future, aiming to eliminate poverty, discrimination, abuse and preventable deaths, address environmental destruction, and usher in an era of development for all people, everywhere.

  • Families and family-oriented policies and programmes are vital for the achievement of many of these goals.
  •  This is because achieving the goals are closely interlinked within this smallest administrative unit.
  • We live in a patriarchal society where there are specific gendered between men and women and the roles of women is dictated by several factors that include the following.
    •  ethno-religious ideologies,
    •  economic factors  ,
    • socio-cultural factors
  • These factors inform the assignment of resources and responsibilities which is often laden with inequities between men and women most often giving women the heaviest burden.
  • Studies reveal that family remains the primary entity in caring for individuals, through which socialization, trust, loyalty and inter-family cooperation develops, and many counts on these attributes in adverse health condition e.g in sickness and immobility.
  1. The Role of women in the past and present by Dr. Mwila Mulenga from Tanzania

She focused on women role against domestic violence and other abuses in the community, changing roles in the family and opportunities created to participate in leadership, socioeconomic transformation among others.

While speaking, Issah Katungulu Luyimbaazi, the African Youth Ambassador and a Cultural expert at the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kampala called on women to equally take on their roles and cardinal duties  in the family and stop neglecting the parental roles.

As much as parents consider working to improve the household income, its not good to leave all their responsibilities in the hands of housemaids who are not trained to raise children as parents would at that tender age.

He said that parents nolonger have time to talk to their children about different issues including making courageous decisions, understand what they go through in life and how to solve some challenges.

Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kampala said that Women are best suited to solve women’s issues.

The issue of women is an important issue. The best people who can follow up and solve this issue are women themselves. We do not suffer from a lack of educated, broad-minded, talented, literary and artistic women.

Thankfully today, there are many such women in our country. As I mentioned before, we had never had such a large number of educated, knowledgeable and outstanding women in the history of our country, neither in seminary nor in academic environments.

We had never had so many woman writers, poets and researchers in different fields of study. Fortunately today, we have such women thanks to the Islamic Republic.

These things have been achieved in the shade of Islam, the Islamic Republic and Imam's (r.a.) enlightening outlook towards the issue of women.

This was pointed out in the statements of the lady who delivered a speech as well. We had never enjoyed such a condition in our country.

We should thank God for His blessings and we should ask Him to increase these blessings. We should thank Him for these blessings and the way to thank Him is what I pointed out in this meeting. We should look at the divine guidance and forget about the materialistic views which are promoted today by westerners and the Americans.

They are very vile and they make extravagant claims. Besides, they have a propagandist outlook. If someone speaks against them, they launch a propagandist attack. But you should not pay attention to their propaganda and, by Allah's favor, you should move forward

Mr. Morteza Pirani, the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tanzania appreciated participants for showing up and participating.
