Bahram-e Choubin Gorge
Bahram-e Choubin Gorge is a historical and tourist site in the mountains of Kabir Kuh and between Darreh Shahr County and Poldokhtar in Ilam Province. This gorge has been named after Bahram-e Choubin (died 591 CE), the famous Sassanid commander and political leader because it was the place in which he had taken refuge during the rebellion against Khosrow II.
Bahram-e Choubin Gorge is a very narrow, high, and strategic valley which is also said to be Bahram-e Choubin’s hunting ground and many valuable artifacts had been crafted at its entrance and heights.
Some of the architectural works of Bahram-e Choubin Gorge included its entry gate, stone staircase, a bridge, and a dam, several towers and fortifications, several buildings, and a prayer place comprising a central room, two smaller rooms, a resting place, etc. The main materials used for the construction of the fortifications and other buildings of the gorge were small and large stones and gypsum mortar.
