Khung-Ajdar Rock Reliefs
The relief belonging to the Elamite era has unfortunately disappeared to a large extent, but it is clear that its subject matter is the public meeting of the king.
The Parthian relief depicts a man on horseback, a man in the middle, three other standing men, and two pigeons.
The man who is riding on a horse looks old and is wearing a royal crown and is approaching the four people standing in front of him who are perhaps greeting and praising him. It is said that the man on horseback is the Parthian king Mehrdad II, the person behind him is an attendant, and the person standing in the middle with his face being shown in full is one of the local rulers who is taller than the others, has a shawl on his left shoulder and his left hand is on his waist and sword. On the other side of the relief is the image of three other people standing, the first being a cleric holding something resembling a pine fruit. The other two people who have their hands tied behind their backs are probably guards. A royal ring has been engraved on the beak of one of the two pigeons carved between the king and a tall ruler, without any decorative symbol, the purpose of which may have been to show the majesty and glory of the king.
This rock relief shows the ritual of appointing a governor by the Parthian king. It appears that the image of the man in the middle of the relief is not unrelated to the bronze Shami Statue, which is one of the main surviving works of Parthian art and is currently in the National Museum of Iran. In the opinion of experts say the man in this relief is the same as the one whose statue is in the National Museum. It is also believed that if someone other than the king has made his statue, then this person should have been of a very high position and it is expected that the statue of the king, should be somewhere in this place.
