Qavam House
There are many beautiful house gardens in Shiraz, visiting which has been one of the main plans of tourists who take a trip to this ancient and historical city. Qavam House of Shiraz is one of the house gardens of Shiraz the beauty of which should be seen closely and visiting this mansion can be an unforgettable experience.
Qavam House was founded by a person named Mirza Ali Mohammad Qavam between 1879 and 1887 AD, i.e. during the Qajar era. The main mansion inside this house garden was the residence of the ruler of Shiraz in the past. A museum named “Naranjastan” has been established in the basement of this house garden, which is managed by Shiraz University.
Features of Qavam House
Qavam House is situated over an area of nearly 3500 square meters, 940 square meters of which are occupied by three mansions. These three mansions are located in the north, south, and east of the area.
Architecture of Qavam House
The main entrance of this site is located in its southern part, which opens in one of the main streets of Shiraz (Lotfa Ali Khan Street) and this has made access to this place very easy.
The entrance gate is made of teak wood with beautiful carvings on it. There is an inscription above the entrance, which is made of red marble and contains verses from the Holy Qur’an. Poems composed by a Shirzai poet by the name of “Asudeh Shirazi” about the founder of the place and the date of its construction (1887 AD) are engraved on the sides of the inscription.
The brickwork of the portal of the gate is very eye-catching, and the images of two soldiers holding guns can be seen on the stone plinth on both sides of the gate. There is a beautiful vestibule immediately after the gate and before entering the garden, which is decorated with brickwork, tilework, and plasterwork. This vestibule is connected to the garden area with two corridors.
The North Mansion of Qavam House
The northern mansion of this site has three floors (including one basement) and is considered the main mansion of the complex. During his lifetime, Qavam al-Molk lived in this mansion. The architecture of this mansion is an imitation of the common architecture of the Zand era. In this type of architecture, the porches were built with two pillars.
The most beautiful part of the building is the large front porch. This porch has two stone pillars made of marble, and several stairs have been built for it. The flat roof of the large porch has been beautifully decorated with colorful designs.
Access to the upper floor is possible from the staircase located on the terrace. This floor has four rooms, which were the residence of the owner and his special guests. The two back rooms of this floor have a porch and a vestibule, and the front rooms have sash windows with colored window panes.
Walnut wood is the primary material for making the doors of this mansion and some doors have been decorated with khatam designs and the other doors with inlay works in Indian style. The ceiling of the back rooms is wooden, while the ceiling of the main rooms is decorated with mirrorwork.
Other Mansions of Qavam House
One of these mansions is known as Zaint al-Molk House. This mansion has been built on two floors, with 20 rooms, and the exact date of its construction is not known.
Qavam Maktabkhaneh or the house of the Iraqis is the other building of this complex, which is located in the east of it. The entrance to this mansion is accessible from its northern part, and a marble wall heater is the most interesting part of it. The rooms of this mansion have marble plinths. The stones used in this building were brought from Yazd and Tabriz.
Chegineh Bathhouse, Qavam Husayniyya, a pavilion, and a private bathhouse are other buildings of Qavam House.
Some of the rooms in the house garden were used by the High Court of Shiraz, and Qavam al-Molk was the judge.
Qavam House was inscribed on the list of Iran’s national heritage in the year 1974 AD.
