Firouzabad and Its Natural Attractions
Firouzabad is one of the counties of Fars province, which, in addition to its impressive historical and ancient monuments, has an eye-soothing nature, which has remained less known because of the greatness and splendor of the existing historical monuments.
Geography and Nature of Firozabad
Covering an area of 3575 square kilometers, Firouzabad is located in the southwest of Fars province and 95 kilometers south of Shiraz. This county houses the ancient site of Gur, one of the most important cities of the Sassanid era (224 to 651 AD). It stands about 1600 meters above sea level and has an annual rainfall of more than 280 mm. A significant part of Firouzabad county is covered by mountains as a result of which it has a relatively mild climate suitable for agricultural activities.
Nature Tourism in Firozabad
Most tourists choose Firouzabad to see monuments such as the Palace of Ardeshir Papakan, the ancient city of Firouzabad, or Dokhtar Castle, while this county has many beautiful and pristine natural attractions that greatly enhance the pleasure of nature tourism.
Tangab Region
Driving 10 kilometers on the Firouzabad-Shiraz road one will reach a place that houses one of the most abundant springs of the region. Tangab Spring with 60 liters of water per second is considered as one of the popular resorts of Firouzabad. “Ashkaft Gavi” Cave where various ancient artifacts have been found is also located in this region. The tools made of stone and bone tell about the life of an intelligent man (Homo sapiens) in this cave. The remains of several human skeletons have also been discovered in this cave.
Hanifqan Spring
One of the natural attractions of Firouzabad that should not be neglected is the Hanifqan Spring. This spring, which is located 45 km from Firouzabad, is very popular among local people. Despite the fact that the water of the spring has decreased to a great extent in recent years - due to extensive droughts - the green and spectacular nature surrounding it continues to attract many tourists.
Tang-e Kherqeh
Another popular resort and the main destination of nature tourism in Firouzabad is Tang-e Kherqeh. This valley has a beautiful forest and many springs flow in it. The mausoleum of Imamzadeh Kherqeh is also located in this area.
No Hunting Zone of Padna
This 40,000-hectare no-hunting zone is located in the east and north of Firouzabad and houses many mammals, birds, and plants. There is a lake near this area, which is formed from the water behind the Tangab Dam.
Rudbal Village
Rudbal village has a pristine and spectacular nature. Rudbal Spring and Gorge are located near this village, a trip to them will leave a sweet memory.
Hayqar Gorge
35 kilometers southwest of Firouzabad, after Rudbal village, there is a beautiful gorge of eight kilometers long and 450 meters deep, in which the Qara Aghaj River flows. After traveling a long distance, this river flows into the Persian Gulf under the name of “Mand” River.
Hayqar Gorge has been the place of annual passage of Qashqai nomads. The stepped structure of the gorge walls, which is the result of the earth’s erosion over millions of years, has doubled its beauty. Hayqar Gorge is very similar to the “Grand Canyon” in the state of Arizona, USA.
Morjan Salt Dome
Salt domes are ridges that are formed due to the movement and rise of salt. A large number of these salt domes can be seen in the sedimentary area of Zagros one of which is Morjan. This salt dome is located in the village of Morjan in the region of Kuhmareh Sorkhi.
Martyr’s Resort
A protected area on the way between Firoizabad and Farashband, where different species of migratory birds and wild animals live.
