An Academic Event Commemorating the 1500th Birth Anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)

On September 15, 2025, a special academic event titled "Islamic Unity with especial reference to the Holy Quran and SeeratunNabi (p.b.u.h)" was held at the Iranology Hall of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, to commemorate the 1500th birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The event was organized jointly by the Culture House of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi and the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Jamia Millia Islamia.
The program commenced with a recitation of the Quran by Mr. Mohammad Najib, a student at Jamia Millia Islamia. Distinguished speakers and attendees included Dr. Faridoddin FaridAsr, Cultural Counselor of Iran in New Delhi; Professor Iqtedar Mohammad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Humanities & languages, JMI; and several prominent professors & scholars such as Professor Mohammad Mushtaq, Professor Mohammad Khalid, Professor Mohammad Arshad, Professor Mohammad Umar Farooq, Professor Khurshid Afaaqi, Dr. Abdul Waris Khan, Dr. Javed Akhtar, Dr. Ainur Rahman, Dr. Mohammad Osama, and Dr. Mohammad Ali. The event was attended by a large number of researchers and postgraduate students.
Hojjat-ul-Islam Ziyaei Nia delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of adhering to Quranic teachings and the Prophet’s traditions to foster unity within the Islamic community. He highlighted examples from Islamic history, such as the misaq-e-Medina, which demonstrate Islam's commitment to unity, peace, and cooperation based on shared values. He further noted that dialogue with followers of other faiths is essential for promoting harmony and brotherhood.
Dr. Dr. Faridoddin FaridAsr underscored that unity is not merely an ideology but a way of life that must be ingrained in individual character to realize its true essence as outlined in the Quran and Sunnah.
The event concluded with remarks by Professor Syed Shahid Ali, former head of Islamic Studies at Jamia Millia Islamia, who expressed gratitude to all participants. Following the ceremony, Dr. Faridoddin FaridAsr and Professor Iqtedar Mohammad Khan discussed future collaborative academic initiatives, including a two-week workshop on Islamic Civilization History to be organized jointly by Iranian and Indian institutions at the Iranian Cultural Center in New Delhi within three months.
This academic gathering served as a platform to strengthen cultural ties between Iran and India while promoting scholarly discourse on Islamic unity and heritage.
