Participation and Speech by the Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India at the 2nd Conference of Young Writers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization

From September 24 to 26, 2025 New Delhi hosted the Second Conference of Young Writers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The event featured Cultural and Artistic Representatives from Member Countries, discussing a diverse range of topics in the fields of Culture and Arts, such as Literature, authorship and publishing, cinema, music, digital arts, radio, television, and media.

Dr. FariddodinFaridAsr, the Cultural Counselor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi, participated in the conference as Iran's representative. He delivered a speech during the cinema panel on the topic of "Narrative Transformations in Cinema."

Some of the Key points of his Speech are as follows:

At the beginning of his presentation, Dr. FaridAsr showcased a short film introducing the history, structure, and achievements of Iranian cinema to the audience. He then elaborated on the growth and evolution of screenwriting in Iranian cinema post-Islamic Revolution.

Dr. FaridAsr emphasized the fundamental concepts and humanistic values promoted by Iranian cinema, highlighting its role in fostering revolutionary ideals. He noted that the emergence of prominent figures and the international success of Iranian cinema in storytelling and screenwriting demonstrate that Iranian filmmakers have achieved artistic proficiency aligned with global standards.

In conclusion, he expressed hope that filmmakers from SCO member states could collaborate based on shared humanistic and Eastern values.

Question & Answer Session:

During the Q&A session, Indian student scholars posed various questions to the experts. One notable inquiry pertained to censorship and restrictions faced by Iranian filmmakers, as well as the impact of digitalization on this issue.

Dr. FaridAsr responded by stating that censorship in Iranian cinema is solely focused on ethical values and societal norms. He argued that these constraints often foster creativity, underscoring that all achievements in Iranian cinema have been realized while adhering to ethical principles.

Additionally, he highlighted another aspect of censorship—the limitations imposed by Western entities on the distribution and screening of Iranian films. Dr. FaridAsr expressed optimism that digitalization would help overcome such barriers and enhance global visibility for Iranian cinema.

The discussions continued over two days, covering a range of topics. Delegates from Iran and other participating countries engaged in fruitful exchanges to better understand each other's ideas and perspectives. The conference underscored the importance of cultural dialogue and collaboration among SCO member states.
