The two-day international conference on "Dara Shikoh: Cultural Pluralism and Religious Syncretism " began on November 27, 2024 in a conference hall at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in the presence of Professor Mazhar Asif, VC, JMI;  Dr. Iraj Elahi, Ambassador of Iran to India, Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Chairman of National Commission of the Promotion of Urdu Language, Professor Akhlaq Ahan and more than fifty guests from Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, and concluded on November 28, 2024 with the presence of Dr. Fariduddin Farid Asr, Cultural Counselor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi, Mr. Qaharman Soleimani, Director of the Persian Research Center of the Saadi Foundation, Delhi, Mr. Iqbal Singh, Chairman of the Minority Affairs Commission of India, Pushkar Mishra, Head of the Reza Rampur Library and a significant number of professors and students. This conference was by JMI in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru University and Dara Shokoh Foundation concluded with the closing ceremony.

After formally welcoming all the distinguished guests at the inauguration, Professor Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, delivered his welcome address mainly in Persian. He discussed the personality of Dara Shokoh and his role and the inclusive culture of India and emphasized: “This country has not only accepted different religions and their followers, but has always allowed every valuable culture and language to flourish on its land and, no other nation can compare to India in this regard. The unique landscape of this country has given rise to figures like Dara Shokoh who have grabbed the attention of the people. He further stated that the way the Persian language has been welcomed and spread in India has made people from these regions travel here to learn and understand the language. The respect this country has for languages ​​and cultures set India apart from the rest of the world.”

Professor Akhlaq, Head of the Centre for Persian and Central Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, explained about Dara Shikoh's efforts in translating the Upanishads into Persian, which contributed to a better understanding of religions, especially Hinduism, around the world. It is worth mentioning that the event included the presentation of more than 120 research papers over 2 days in academic sessions at the conference.

Dr. Fariduddin Farid Asr emphasized in his speech the need op such discussion which can build a narrative of peace & harmony in society.
