The Iranian feature film Today, directed by Reza Mirkarimi, was screened at Colombo Public Library as part of an international film programme featuring the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, South Korea, and Vietnam. The programme ran from 3 to 5 October 2026 (11–13 Mehr 1405) and was attended by enthusiasts of Iranian culture and cinema, as well as cultural officials, Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar, and Werawani Gangabadarachchi, Director of Colombo Public Library.

Ms Gangabadarachchi expressed her appreciation for the cooperation of the cultural sections of the embassies of Russia, Iran, Vietnam, and South Korea. She noted that screening films from these countries, each with its own distinctive history and cultural trajectory, helps audiences gain a better understanding of their respective cultural and artistic characteristics.

Alireza Shahini, an expert at the Cultural Counsellorship of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Sri Lanka, also addressed the audience, highlighting the position of Iranian cinema and its focus on family, moral values, human relationships, and social issues.

He explained that Iranian cinema seeks to communicate humanistic and ethical themes through simple yet compelling narratives that resonate with audiences.

The screening of the Iranian feature film provided an opportunity to introduce Iranian cinema to Sri Lankan audiences and strengthen cultural relations between Iran and Sri Lanka. The event was warmly received by those in attendance.
