Mr Hamid Bakhtiyar, the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Zimbabwe, has said that Zimbabwe can overcome the effects of sanctions imposed by America by embracing science, technology, and innovation.

Speaking at the launch of the book “Allies in Adversity," written by renowned author Dr. Norbert, on Friday, October 25, 2024, in Harare, Mr Bakhtiyar said just like Zimbabwe, that is buckling under the same sanctions imposed by America, Iran had managed to beat the sanctions through crafting ways and means of sustaining self-sufficiency in almost all of its needs.

He said Iran can now be counted as one of the countries in the world that is producing finished industrial products, medical equipment and supplies, among others, products that the country is now exporting to other countries. This is being done against the background of sanctions imposed by America since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.

He said Zimbabwe and the Islamic Republic of Iran share a common history, that of being under the same sanctions imposed by America.

The Cultural Counsellor noted that Zimbabwe and Iran enjoy excellent political, economic, and cultural relations dating back to 1979.
Dr. Hosho’s book traces the relationship between Zimbabwe and China.

The launch of the book coincided with the Zimbabwe Anti Sanctions Day, a day that is commemorated by all countries in Southern Africa under the banner of the Southern Africa Development Community.
