Dr Ali Pourmarjan, the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran Nairobi, met with Philip Anyolo, the Catholic Archbishop of Nairobi, and while offering condolences on the passing of Pope Francis, he said: "Pope Francis made many efforts to strengthen relations between divine religions."
He expressed hope that Pope Francis' cultural and religious legacy will continue in the areas of interaction with followers of other Abrahamic religions, interfaith dialogue, addressing the affairs of the poor and needy, etc.
Pourmarjan described the relationship between Iranian religious centers, especially the Center for Religious Dialogue, and the section on interfaith dialogue in the Vatican during the reign of the late Pope Francis as excellent, and provided explanations on this matter to the Bishop of Nairobi .
The Catholic ArchBishop of Nairobi, thanked the Iranian Cultural Councilor for his presence at the Nairobi Catholic Church and offered condolences on the occasion of the passing of Pope Francis, saying: "The Pope was an exceptional figure in his behavior and performance, and his simplicity of life was visible to the whole world, and this will be a great legacy for all Christians in the world and lovers of peace, brotherhood, and coexistence in the world."
He added: "We are interested in cooperating with Iranian friends to increase our understanding of Islam and Shiism."
