Report on the Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding Between Radio Bilal 94.1 FM and the Cultural Counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between Radio Bilal 94.1 FM and the Cultural Counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to renew the longstanding media cooperation agreement that began in 2016.

The partnership aims at promoting peace, unity, interfaith coexistence, cultural understanding, and development through media engagement.

Remarks from the Cultural Counsellor

Mr. Rezaei D. Ali Asghar, the Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, expressed his appreciation to the leadership of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council for the warm and continuous cooperation that has existed over the years. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural and media collaboration in promoting peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding between communities.

Remarks from Radio Bilal Management

Mr. Kalule Moses, the Station Manager of Radio Bilal 94.1 FM, informed the Cultural Counsellor that the “Peace and Unity Show” remains the station’s flagship program dedicated to building bridges among communities through the dissemination of messages of peace, unity, and development.

The two-hour weekly program serves as a strong voice for promoting harmony and social development within society. The show is designed to educate the diverse Muslim audience on the importance of intercultural relations and peaceful coexistence.

Mr. Kalule further explained that the program consists of various thematic segments that address contemporary social and behavioral challenges affecting the Muslim community in Uganda. These discussions are supported by research and expert contributions, making the program impactful and educational.

Purpose of the Partnership

With the support of the Cultural Counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, both parties aim to strengthen and expand the impact of the “Peace and Unity Show” to reach a wider audience and further promote:

  • Peaceful interfaith coexistence
  • Cultural exchange between Uganda and Iran
  • Awareness against Islamic extremism
  • Unity and development within the Muslim community

Areas of Cooperation

The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a cooperative framework between the two parties through the following agreed activities:

  • Radio Bilal shall provide a two-hour program every Wednesday from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
  • Radio Bilal shall broadcast peaceful and interfaith messages from Uganda and Iran through mainstream media and other communication networks.
  • The Cultural Counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran shall provide prominent guests from Uganda and Iran to participate in the program discussions.
  • The Cultural Counsel shall be permitted to use cameras to record the program and take photographs of the guests and hosts whenever necessary.
  • Radio Bilal shall provide refreshments, including soft drinks, for the guests during the program.
  • Prior to each program, Radio Bilal shall make announcements to listeners, encouraging them to tune in and informing them about the guests who will appear on the show. Listeners will also be encouraged to send questions before the program begins.
  • The Cultural Counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran shall at all times abide by the laws and regulations governing broadcasting in Uganda.

The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding marks another important milestone in the partnership between Radio Bilal 94.1 FM and the Cultural Counsel of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
