Iran Participation in the Indian Library Festival, New Delhi
The Festival of Libraries was inaugurated by Mrs. Draupadi Mormo, the President of India on 5 August 2023, in the presence of several august personalities and which was also attended by Dr. Iraj Elahi the Hon’ble Ambassador of I.R.Iran to India, Dr. Fariduddin Faridasr, the Cultural Counsellor of Iran, Kahraman Soleimani, the Director of the Persian Language Research Center, and Shahab Khaje Piri, the Director of the Noor International Microfilm Center, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Two-days festival (August 5 and 6), which is organized by the Ministry of Culture, has invited different libraries from all over the world to discuss the "modernization" and "digitalization" of libraries in India which is a part of the second phase of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and is in line with the vision of Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narindra Modi to promote the development and digitization of libraries and to foster a reading culture in the country. It aims to facilitate the formulation of action-oriented policies for the development of model libraries in India down to the village and community levels.
Mrs. Mormo the President of India in her speech said that the development of libraries is related to the development of society and culture. Libraries were used as a bridge between developed civilizations Efforts to modernize and digitize libraries are very important. Libraries have become more accessible in using information and communication technology. The National Virtual Library of India is being developed to realize the vision of a digital library of a nation.
The Festival of Libraries consisted of launch events, Master classes and Panel discussions. It also introduces a special ranking system for libraries across India that encourages healthy competition and development in the library ecosystem. This festival is held with a focus on the development of libraries at the village and community level, bringing together interested persons from all walks of life, including librarians, Academics, Organizers of literary festivals, famous Authors, Publishing Houses, owners of book cafes and translators. .
Delhi Libraries Festival is not just about books. It has also highlighted various crafts and cultural heritages that contribute to the world of literature. Visitors participated in the exhibitions Drawing and Calligraphy. Witness the beauty and richness of 22 indigenous languages through tribal fonts and scripts, promoting linguistic diversity and inclusiveness. The important point of this event is to honor libraries that have shown exemplary work at the national, state, regional, rural, institutional and individual levels.
