IRAN’S SACRED DEFENSE 45TH ANNIVERSARY

September 22nd marks the 45th anniversary of Iran’s Sacred Defense, when the Iranian nation stood against Saddam Hussein’s invasion supported by global powers. This moment in history echoes deeply with South Africa’s own struggle against apartheid, where people resisted a system backed by powerful external allies. Both nations drew strength from sacrifice, unity, and faith in justice. As South Africans honor their own heroes of the liberation struggle, we also remember the Iranian martyrs, veterans, and freedmen who defended their homeland for eight years. Their courage and resistance remain a reminder that freedom is never granted—it is won through resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to dignity.
