Shehyun Lake
203 meters in height the Shehyun or Dez Dam Lake, which is located at a distance of 15 km. to the north of Dezful County (Khuzestan Province), is considered to be the highest dam in the middle east and ranks the sixth highest dam in the world.
With a length of 5 km, a width of 12 km, and with a depth of 50 meters this lake covers an area of about 6,000 hectares and is supplied with water that originates from the heights of Arak and Aligudarz that enters this lake after passing through the Zagros Mountains and collecting a large number of tributaries.
The Shehyun Lake has several small and large uninhabited islands on which different types of trees have grown naturally. The largest of these islands of the lake covers an area of 60,000 square meters. Small animals such as foxes and rabbits live on the islands alongside birds such as see-see partridge, plain partridge, and seabirds. Leopards have also been seen in the heights of these areas.
This dam lake is a beautiful tourist attraction and besides its beautiful landscape and sight-seeing areas provides a great scope for tourism exploitation as well as experiencing such water sports as boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing and even jumping off the cliffs into the lake.
