History

Isfahan Higher School of Health Education was established in a small house in Ahmadabad neighborhood of Isfahan. After some time, the main center of this school was moved to the famous Sa’di High School in order to use the facilities and classes of that high school for educating the admitted students. Four years later, i.e., in 1950, a "Medical College" started working next to the Isfahan Higher School of Health Education and succeeded in obtaining the license to conduct a six-year course in MBBS. After some time, the school was merged into the college and its faculty members engaged in teaching the students admitted to the college.

Five years later, i.e. in 1955, this college was permitted to establish the school of pharmacy, which offered courses at bachelor level, but two years later, this school continued its activities as a separate faculty. Three years later, these two colleges, together with the newly established Faculty of Literature, formed "Isfahan University". With the addition of three new academic courses of pharmaceutical sciences, educational sciences, and nursing and the establishment of a special university clinic next to Sorayya and Khurshid Medical Centers in the year 1968, the path for the establishment of the university was rapidly paved. In the following years, the courses of microbiology, parasitology, and medical diagnosis and the faculty of dentistry were added to the structure of the university, and finally in 1985, with the separation of medical science units from universities, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences came into being and began its activities independently.
