University of Zabol

The land of Sistan has been the home of legendary Iranian warriors. Although this land has suffered a lot due to many droughts, it still maintains its freshness and historical authenticity and is moving towards a brighter future. The existence of dynamic universities in this land is quite promising. As one of the most important centers of higher education in Sistan and Baluchistan Province of Iran, the University of Zabol is located in the big city of Zabol and plays an important role in training specialist forces for the region by hosting about 15 thousand students.

History of the University of Zabol

The foundation of the University of Zabol was laid with the establishment of the College of Agriculture in 1980 and with its expansion over the years the following eight faculties are now functional in it.

Faculty of Agriculture: After the expansion of the activities of the College of Agriculture, this college was upgraded to a faculty in 1989. The two educational groups “Plant Products” (1984) and “Livestock Products” (1988) are known as the first educational fields of this faculty. Presently, 65 faculty members are rendering their services in eight educational groups at undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. levels.

Faculty of Sciences: This faculty was formed by merging the fields of biology (animal, plant, and general) and mathematics in 2001. Later on, the field of chemistry (pure and applied) was added to this faculty. Presently, in addition to these fields, the fields of statistics and physics are also taught in the Faculty of Sciences, which has 66 faculty members.

Faculty of Veterinary: Four groups of “Basic Sciences”, “Pathobiology”, “Food Hygiene” and “Clinical Sciences” are active in this faculty. The 10 laboratories and the specialized veterinary polyclinic of this faculty provide their services to the students in pursuit of their higher education.

Faculty of Natural Resources: The establishment of this faculty goes back to February 2000 and, presently, three teaching groups and 23 faculty members work in this faculty.

Faculty of Arts and Architecture: This faculty is as old as the Faculty of Sciences and “archaeology and architecture” was the first field in which students were admitted. Initially, this faculty only admitted students at the associate level, but it now admits students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well.

Faculty of Engineering: One of the old faculties of Zabol University, which has been admitting students since the winter semester of 2001 in technical engineering. Currently, five groups of “civil engineering”, “mechanics”, “electricity”, “computer” and “mapping” are active in this faculty, which are served by more than fifty faculty members.

Faculty of Literature and Humanities: Arabic language and literature was one of the earliest fields of higher education at the University of Zabol. The addition of the Persian language and literature course in the early years of the activities of the university led to the establishment of the faculty of literature and humanities. Presently, the number of groups in this faculty has increased to 9, and 61 faculty members are engaged in educating its students.

Faculty of Water & Soil: This faculty was launched in 2010 and currently hosts more than 500 students in three levels of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate.

Research Activities of the University of Zabol

The “Center Growth of Technological Units” of the University of Zabol has been established with the aim of supporting its researchers’ creative ideas. In this center, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized units that are capable of commercialization cooperate with university researchers to create synergy and mutual growth.

In addition to this center, another center called “Technology Innovation and Development” has been opened at this university to deal with innovative ideas presented to businesses that are looking for further growth. Promoting the culture of innovation, identifying and empowering experts, and promoting the role of innovators and researchers in knowledge-based technologies are among the goals of this center.

Zabol University Publishes 9 journals (five in English) in such fields as microbiology, water engineering, applied sciences, agriculture, environment, agricultural sciences, and urban development.
