Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute

The 1979 Islamic Revolution of Iran was a great phenomenon that brought the world’s thinkers who were caught in the limbo between Marxism and liberalism. This revolution was an event based on religion that started with religious slogans and although various leftist or liberal groups tried to give it a non-religious face, it did not deviate from its path. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, certain centers were established with the aim of introducing the true image of the revolution to the world and conducting research in this regard. One of these centers is the Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute, which was started in 1995.

Activities of Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute

Clarifying the concept that gave rise to the Islamic Revolution requires research in the field of Islamic sciences and scholarly criticism of other schools of thought. Islamic humanities and the compilation of great works in this field have been the main objectives of the establishment of this institute.

The educational courses of Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute are held in three levels: undergraduate (full-time and part-time), postgraduate, and doctorate levels. The institute comprises the following 13 educational groups:

5. Exegesis and Quranic sciences

6. Sociology

7. Law

8. Psychology

9. Political science

10. Philosophy

11. Educational sciences

12. Theology

13. Management

Presently (2023), about 1100 pursue their higher education at undergraduate in this institute, while, the number of those at postgraduate and Ph.D. levels stands at 250 and 160 respectively. So far more than 4200 people have graduated from Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute.

Scientific Journals of Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute

In addition to five general publications, Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute also publishes 19 scientific journals of which 12 journals are of scientific-research rank:

2. The biannual “History of Islam in the Mirror of Research”

3. The biannual “Qur'anic Knowledge”

4. The biannual of “Political Knowledge”

5. The biannual of “Theological Knowledge”

6. The quarterly of “Psychology and Religion”

7. The quarterly “Knowledge of Religions”

8. The quarterly “Socio-Cultural Knowledge”

9. The quarterly “Philosophical Knowledge”

10. The biannual “Islam and educational research”

11. The biannual “Rays of Knowledge”

12. The biannual “Knowledge of Logic”

13. The biannual “Horizons of Thought”.

The establishment of an independent center with the aim of compiling dictionaries in the field of Islamic intellectual sciences is one of the long-term and wide-ranging projects of the Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute. The mission of the research center is to provide the world with Islamic knowledge, to deal with distortions, and to provide for research in specialized fields related to Islamic intellectual sciences.

Scientific Conferences and Meetings

Organizing research-oriented events is one of the most important activities of scientific and research centers. Keeping this in view, a department named "Scientific Conferences and Meetings" has been established at Imam Khomeini Educational and Research Institute to manage national and international conferences. During the activity of the institute, many meetings and scientific conferences have been held and the papers and discussions presented in them have been published in the form of books and compilations.

Activities in the Publishing Market

So far more than 700 books have been published by Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute and obtaining the rank of 83 in different evaluation and ranking systems is one of the important achievements of this institute’s publications. In addition to offering its own books, this center also has the license to offer and sell seven thousand books in the field of Islamic humanities.

Open Educational Programs

Imam Khomeini Education and Research Institute also conducts open educational courses for different audiences. So far this institute has conducted more than 200 of these courses, the duration of which may differ from one day to several semesters, depending on the content and audience of the program.
