The most important objective of establishing technical colleges is to train technicians needed for various industries. Therefore, the courses imparted in these colleges, which usually last two years, consist of various theoretical and practical forms. As one of the branches of Technical and Vocational University, Shahid Shamsipour Technical and Vocational College of Tehran and has a long history of training technicians in several fields.

History

The establishment of Shahid Shamsipour Technical and Vocational College dates back to 1964, when “Aziz Nabavi’, who is known as the father of accounting science in Iran, founded the “Institute of Accounting”, which initially operated as a private institution and its center was located in one of the northern areas of Tehran. Sometime later, the institute became known as the “Tehran Institute of Technology” and benefitted from the services of several consultants from the MIT University of the United States both in the management of its affairs and training programs.

In the year 1974, the Tehran Institute of Technology was bought by the Ministry of Education, which was considered an important development in the history of this institute and following which it continued its activity as a state center of higher education. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the name of the institution was changed to “Shahid Shamsipour Technical Training School” in honor of one of its martyred graduates and it was eventually as “Shahid Shamsipour Technical and Vocational College’.

Education and research in Shahid Shamsipour Technical and Vocational College

Since 2005, Shahid Shamsipour Technical and Vocational College only admits male students. Presently, four thousand students of this college pursue their higher education in four groups of “Basic Sciences”, “Accountancy and Management”, “Electricals and Electronics”, and "Computer Sciences” and such fields of industrial accounting, medical equipment, auditing, and information technology at the associate degree level, financial accounting, and computer networks at the undergraduate level, and control engineering, professional engineering of communication and information technology, insurance management, industrial management, electronics, accountancy, software and information technology at two associate and undergraduate levels. Three scientific associations of accounting, computer, and electronics have also been established in this college to guide the research activities of different groups. A group called “virtual education” is also active in this college, which is engaged in holding public courses and distance education.

14 laboratories of this college are available for students to use its facilities to conduct their research projects. The department of research of this college is vested with the responsibility of supervising the research activities. In addition to supporting the research projects of students and researchers, this unit is also in charge of organizing research and educational workshops, setting up laboratories, inviting researchers from other centers of higher education, evaluating research activities, and formulating the research policies and strategies of the college.

A growth center of technology units has been established in this college in order to ensure connecting the students to industrial units. The main aim of this is to collaborate with innovative groups and individuals to move towards operationalizing their ideas by providing them with material and service support. Commercialization of ideas, entrepreneurship, creating economic prosperity, creating suitable job opportunities, and establishing communication between idea makers and investors are the other goals of this center. At the end of 2022, seven companies and technology units had been located in this center.

The Industry Liaison Unit is another department of the Shahid Shamsipour Technical and Vocational College, which provides for the requirements and introduces the research priorities of industries and companies to the researchers of the college. Through this unit, students are introduced to industrial units for internships. Also, one of the duties of this unit is to conduct sabbaticals and develop new curricula in accordance with the requirements of industries.
