University of Kashan
Kashan is a rather big city in the north of Isfahan Province of Iran. Several centers of higher education operate in this city, the most important of which is the University of Kashan. As a vocational institute of higher education, this university ranks among the top universities in Iran.
The Historical Background of the University of Kashan
The establishment of the University of Kashan was authorized in the year 1973 CE. However, since no suitable place was available to accommodate this institute of higher education, the founder of the University, “Mahmoud Eslami”, rented an old building that was previously the residence of the governors of the region, and started its activities under the name of “Kashan College of Sciences” in September 1974, and giving admission to 200 students in mathematics and physics.
Being ambitious and farsighted, Eslami intended to build the main building of the university in the Fin region of Kashan, which is one of the old and pleasant areas of this city. He also believed that the university even needed an airport of its own to facilitate the commutation of foreign students and researchers to the university.
Even though the location of this institute changed a couple of times, for quite some time students were only admitted and educated in the same two fields only. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, this center, which was earlier affiliated with the University of Isfahan, came to be affiliated with Tarbiat Moalem (Teacher’s Training) University of Tehran and it was decided that only teacher’s training courses would be imparted in it.
However, not contented with this decision, the concerned authorities of the time continued their efforts to make it independent, and eventually, this center came to be recognized as the “Teacher’s Training University of Kashan”. Following this development, the two faculties of engineering and arts as well as several research centers were gradually established in this university, paving the path for the formation of a full-fledged university in the year 1994 and accelerating the process of the expansion of physical spaces, educational facilities, and increase in the number of courses and students.
