Gur-e Dokhtar

Gur-e Dokhtar (lit. the girl’s tomb) is an ancient tomb located in the Eram district of the Dashtestan county of Bushehr Province of Iran. The history of this grave, which has similarities with the tomb of Cyrus the Great in Pasargadae, dates back to the year 600 BC. The tomb dates to the 6th century BC.

This building is probably the tomb of Cyrus the Younger, Teispes (Cyrus I the grandfather of Cyrus the Great), Atossa (daughter), Mandana (mother of Cyrus the Great), or a sister of Cyrus the Great.

This historical monument is a rectangular stone tomb built in the style of the tomb of Cyrus the Great in Pasargadae (Fars Province) but in a smaller size and with a roof similar to the tomb of Cyrus the Great. The whole building is made of 24 pieces of stone in different dimensions that are connected together with certain fasteners. No mortar has been used in the construction of this building.

There is an indentation (similar to a frame) on top of the entrance of the building, which was probably the place where the inscriptions related to it were placed. The actual height of the building is four and a half meters and there is a small pond inside the building. This building has an entrance door with dimensions of 70 × 90 cm. The roof of the tomb is covered with 2 pieces of large boulders and there is another stone on top of the roof with the shape of a half-cylinder, which is hollow from inside, and is carved and placed in a very interesting way and with a special style of architecture. There are also 2 large triangular-shaped boulders in the upper part of the roof.

The remains of the Castle of the Sassanid king, Ardeshir, are located near the Gur-e Dokhtar.
