Annual Women Quran Competitions at Masjid Rahman, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.

 

The function was organised by Nansana Muslim Women League, Wakiso Muslim District Council, under Uganda Muslim supreme council structures with cooperation from the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

This Quran competition was aimed at promoting Quran Memorization  and Recitation, encouraging a deeper understanding and reflection of the Quran among muslim women in Wakiso District and fostering a sense of community.

They also highlight the leading role of women in the Quranic field,  identify talented women and provide a platform for them to gain recognition locally.

 

The event was graced by Mr. Abdollah Abbasi, the Iranian Cultural Counsellor who was the guest of honour. Among other distinguished guests was Sheikh Siraje Kaluuma Katangawuzi, the representative from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and the county sheikh of Nansana County where the competitions were held in the main courtyard of the Al-Rahman Mosque in the city of Nansana with  about 200 Muslim women from Nansana.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Sheikh Jamil Nsubuga, one of the members of the jury, gave a short speech welcoming the guests and participants in the competition, and thanked the Cultural Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Supreme Council of Muslims of Uganda, and the Nansana Muslim Women's Association for holding this Holy Quran competition in the city of Nansana (Wakiso Province).

Then, Ms. Hajat  Saideh Kyarisima, the chairperson of the Nansana Muslim Women's Association, in her speech, while appreciating and thanking the Cultural Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Supreme Council of Muslims of Uganda, mentioned the promotion of the culture of memorizing and reciting the Holy Quran, encouraging deeper reflection and understanding of the verses of the Holy Quran, and strengthening the sense of belonging to the Quranic community among the Muslim women of Nansana as the most important goals of holding this Holy Quran competition.

Then, in a short speech, the Iran cultural counsellor, while appreciating and thanking the Supreme Council of Muslims of Uganda and the Nansana Muslim Women's Association for planning and holding this round of the Holy Quran competitions, considered memorizing and reciting the Holy Quran to be very valuable and to have spiritual and even material effects on human daily life, and called it very effective in raising children as well as in the rituals of marriage and housekeeping for women.

Referring to the annual holding of the International Holy Quran Competition and the annual holding of the International Holy Quran Exhibition during the holy month of Ramadan in the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was attened by Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubaje, the Grand Mufti of Uganda, and his  accompanying delegation during the holy month of Ramadan in Tehran,  was held with the aim of visiting the 32nd International Exhibition of the Holy Quran and participating in relevant specialized meetings, considered the field of religious and missionary cooperation between the two countries of Iran and Uganda to be very important and effective in line with Quranic activities.

The Cultural Counsellor also provided explanations regarding the holding of the 7th International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students and Quranic Technology and Innovations, which is being held by the Academic Jihad of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He announced in this regard that Mr. Osama Kijambu Suleiman, a complete Quran memorizer from Uganda, has won points in the preliminary (online) stage of the aforementioned international competition among participants from 65 countries around the world. God willing, he will soon leave for Iran to participate in the final (in-person) stage.

At the end of the ceremony, prizes were awarded to the top performers in each category.
