The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has extended his congratulations to Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team for achieving the world championship title at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships held in Croatia.

In a message delivered on Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei praised the wrestlers for their "determination and hard work" that brought joy and pride to the nation.

"Congratulations to the young wrestlers. Your determination and hard work, along with that of your brothers in freestyle wrestling, have made the nation happy and the country proud. I pray to God for your success and victory, and I extend my congratulations to the athletes, coaches, and managers," the message from the Leader stated.

On Saturday, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team triumphed at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, clinching the championship title a day prior to the conclusion of the tournament.

The Iranian team ultimately secured four gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals, accumulating a total of 180 points, surpassing Azerbaijan with 89 points and Uzbekistan with 72 points in the rankings.

The Greco-Roman world title was achieved just days after Iran’s freestyle wrestlers made history by winning the championship title after a 12-year gap, earning a record seven medals.

Iran’s freestyle wrestlers topped the standings with 145 points, followed closely by the US with 134 points and Japan with 111 points.

This achievement marks a historic milestone for Iranian wrestling, as it is the first occasion that both the freestyle and Greco-Roman teams have secured the world championship title in the same year.
