October 12th is considered as a significant cultural day for Iranians to commemorate the great Persian mystic poet Hafez Shirazi who is highly revered by famous writers and scholars all over the world.

The mausoleum of Hafez Shirazi commonly known as Hafezieh is located in Shiraz, Fars Province. Every Year, a number of Iranian scholars and poets gather at his mausoleum to mark the National Day of Hafez.

This year this function  was held in the presence of  Ayatullahsyed Ibrahim Raisi thehonorablePresident of I.R.Iran, Mr. Mohd Mahdi Esmaili the Minister of Culture & Islamic Guidance and MrRudra Gaurav Shresth the honorableAmbassador of India  in Iran.

In this memorable event , the    honorable Ambassador of India delivered  a speech  which is as follows :

India and Iran are  thesignificant component  of a  enriched  historical, cultural and linguistic family. Our nations have maintained  brotherhood and friendship throughout the history. People traveled from Iran to India and from India to Iran and settled there.Writers, Historians, Poets, Sultans, Traders, Artists and others.  It can be  said that India is the second home of Iranians.

The great nations of Iran and India have many commonalities. Among them are Indian and Persian language, Sanskrit language and Dari language, Art and Architecture, Mysticism and Sufism, lifestyle and so on Hundreds of great personalities,  like Abu RehanBiruni, BarzoyeTabib, BidelDehlavi, HazinLahiji, Ghani Kashmiri, Amir KhosroDehlavi, Ghalib Dehlavi and Tagore are among our common  literary figures.

Today, more than ever, India and Iran need to  furtherstrengthen their all-round relations in the Cultural, Political, Economic, Historical and Social fields. Today, India is ready to introduce great figures such as Hafez Shirazi, Saadi Shirazi, Maulana JalaluddinBalkhi, Khayyam Neishaburi, Attar Neishaburi, Shams Tabrizi and Ferdowsi Toosito  present generation and its youth. If our new generation does not benefit from the legacy of these nobles, it will be a great loss for us. For this reason, in the new National Education Policy (2020), the Indian government has considered the Persian language as one of the 9 classical languages of the country.

India is also in the heart of the Iranian nation specially In art , cinema, calligraphy, architecture, manuscripts, science , technology,  poetry and literature. Even Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, chose his poetic pseudonym "Hindi".

(راز عشق تو نگوید هندی                             چه کنم من که ز رنگش پیداست)

(Don't tell the secret of your love, Hindi/ What should I do that can be seen in its color)

honorable Ambassador further added that  Hafez has a special place in the minds of Indians. The kings of India took fortune from him. Persian and Urdu poets were also influenced by him.

With all this acceptance and fame, it is not surprising that the oldest copy of Diwan Hafiz was found in Gorakhpur. Hafiz's influence is very clear in Tagore's poetry. Tagore traveled from India to the land of Hafez and Saadi and expressed his devotion to them.
